Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me regarding citizenship for children born in the United States. I welcome your thoughts and comments on this issue.

Currently, two bills have been introduced in the 110th Congress to directly address citizenship for children born in the United States. On January 4, 2007, Congressman Elton Gallegly (R-CA) introduced H.R. 133, the Citizenship Reform Act of 2007, and H.R. 1940, the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007, was introduced on April 19, 2007, by Representative Nathan Deal (R-GA). The bills have been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. Both bills seek to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship to children born in the United States whose parents are not citizens or permanent resident aliens. Should this legislation come before the fulll Senate, you may be certain I will keep your views in mind.

I appreciate hearing from you and hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue of concern to you.

Sincerely,
Kay Bailey Hutchison
