The part about the SUV and the police definitely sounds odd. I find it hard to imagine that the police would not take an immediate interest in finding $20,000 worth of stolen car especially since the technology was there to do it and the theft was apparently reported shortly after it happened. The fact that they were unwilling to even take a report sounds really really strange. Maybe from experience the police know that the car is likely to be across the border before they can do anything and jewelry usually stays in the U.S. -- I don't know, but not taking a report?

The part about OnStar is kind of understandable. GM probably doesn't want to get involved in things like a husband/wife using OnStar to find the spouse in a motel with somebody else -- so maybe there are reasons for not locating a car unless the police verify it is really stolen.

BlueHills, valid point. I can see what you are saying about OnStar. I would never have it because I think it is like paying someone to invade my privacy but that is just me.

As for the police not responding to take a report of the stolen vehicle, that is standard procedure around here. Of course, the only reason they took the report for the President's motorcade vehicle was because it was the President's motorcade.

Gangs of punks go into convenience stores and steal beer and other things and those crimes aren't even called in! They just make a list and turn it in periodically. It's sort of common knowledge.

Therefore car thieves and other thieves can rest assured that nobody is going to do anything to catch them. It's disgusting.

Apparently, that is what is meant by rotting from within -- at least in part.
