A convicted felon was sentenced Friday to three years in federal prison for entering the United States illegally for the third time, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Eddy Vasquez-Leon, 27, of Mexico, was booked in the Fayette County Detention Center following his arrest for several traffic violations in November 2010. That's when authorities found that he was in the United States illegally, according to the release.

Court records show that Vaszquez-Leon was previously deported in 2003 and 2009 and was convicted in state court on robbery charges in Ohio on June 1, 2006. He served three years in prison and was subsequently deported, the release says.
