It wasn’t immediately clear how the accident occurred and police didn’t immediately say if the man was operating the remote control helicopter he was struck by. MANDATORY CREDIT,
NEW YORK (AP) — A remote control helicopter being flown in a New York City park has struck a teenager in the head and killed him.
Police say the accident occurred Thursday afternoon near a parkway in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn but it's unclear what happened.
Police haven't said if the 19-year-old was struck by a remote control helicopter he was operating or by someone else's. They say he suffered a severe head injury but they don't believe any criminal act was involved.
Enthusiasts are allowed to operate model aircraft in designated parts of Calvert Vaux Park, which features a playground, basketball courts, baseball diamonds and a soccer field.
A group called Seaview Rotary Wings organizes flights in the park. Club members haven't responded to requests for comment.
