Fox reporting man open fires in mall, so far 5 treated and 2 dead ( as far as news can tell at this time) Omaha Neb.

(CNN) -- Police were searching for a person who fired shots Wednesday at the popular Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, wounding five people.


The Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, is locked down after the shooting.

The shooting appeared to take place at the Von Maur store inside the shopping complex, which was locked down, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Paramedics were at the scene. At least two people were seen being taken from the shopping complex on stretchers and placed in an ambulance.

Shoppers and employees walked out of the building with their hands up.

"I was standing around getting ready to go back to work and all of a sudden I heard this bang, bang, bang -- it sounded like someone shooting fireworks," a witness told CNN affiliate KETV. "I ran to get away from whatever was happening."

Another witness said people started running frantically from the Von Maur area saying there was a shooting.

"I heard three loud pops," said mall employee Charissa Totten. "Immediately after that, there was a series of maybe 20 to 25 more shots up on the third floor." She said she saw a man shot on the second floor.

Another woman who works at the mall said she saw a woman shot, and added that the shots seemed to be coming from inside the Von Maur store, on an upper level.

They are reporting 9 died, including male shooter who died of self-inflicted gunshot.

Just reported 9 dead 10 counting the gunman. How very sad!!

This is awful. I often wonder what brings people to this point, but then again, when we talk here about all of the ways illegal immigration has affected all Americans, including dollars that should have gone to help people with mental illnesses, then it makes events like this even more sad.

People hurt, even dead, because one person could not get the help they needed. This is already a difficult time of year for so many of us, and when someone is either depressed, or mentally ill, it weighs down on them more, then their deranged mind takes over and they committ violent acts against others.

The sad thing is that this kind of event, although each time it is shocking, has become somewhat common place these days, I wish it was not so. I am so sorry for those people who were hurt and killed, and more so for their families, what an awful thing to happen, and even more so at this time of year when we look forward to spending time with loved ones, in their cases, ones who now will not be there.
