McCain likes the 14 Amendment just the way it is
Is this a surprise to anybody ?
McCain says he doesn't back 14th Amendment change
By BOB CHRISTIE (AP)
PHOENIX — Breaking with Republican leaders in the Senate, U.S. Sen. John McCain says he is not requesting hearings into the constitutional amendment that grants automatic citizenship to babies born in the United States, and doesn't support changing the Constitution.
McCain told The Associated Press that, despite a statement he made last week that was widely interpreted as meaning he supported hearings on the 14th Amendment, he remains unconvinced that a change in the Constitution is needed. Instead, he argued that fully securing the border would help to solve the problem.
"When I was asked ... I said 'Look, if senators want to have hearings then senators have hearings, that's how the Senate works, but I'm not requesting hearings,'" McCain said in an interview Thursday. "I'm devoting all my efforts to getting the borders secure, and if you get the border secure than the difficulties and challenges with this issue of people coming across our border illegally to have children is dramatically reduced."
McCain said the Founding Fathers intentionally made the Constitution extremely hard to change and that he is fundamentally in favor of leaving it as it is.
When asked directly if would support such an amendment, McCain said: "No. I mean, first of all we'd have to have hearings, we'd have to find out what the argument would be, but I certainly don't at this time."
Senior Republicans last week joined the push to take up the issue, including Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
A Pew Hispanic Center study released this week said that one in 12 children born in the U.S. has at least one parent who is in the country illegally. The report added to calls from prominent Republicans to end automatic citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants.
Supporters argue making such a change will discourage immigrants who have children on U.S. soil to use them to stay in the country. Opponents says it could leave millions of American-born children stateless.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said she is surprised that Republican congressional leaders are joining a push to reconsider the amendment instead of working with Democrats on immigration reform.
McCain is currently facing a tough primary fight against former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who has criticized McCain for being soft on immigration because of his previous support for comprehensive immigration reform. McCain has fought back by stressing his efforts to secure the border, abandoning any hint of support for wholesale reform of the immigration system until that is accomplished.

Idiot McCain strikes again....
Instead, he argued that fully securing the border would help to solve the problem.
No Mr McCain, it is not enough. We must take away the incentive to drop an anchor baby here. We must also end birthright citizenship and birthright tourism. The Immigration Industry will just have to suffer not being able to sell something they DO NOT own...

On Friday's Mark Levin Show: Mark thoroughly explains the history behind the 14th Amendment and especially with the notion of, "Anchor babies." The law is clear that a person born here from illegal immigrant parents is not a citizen, yet our politicians refuse to enforce the Constitution and the law behind it. There’s no such thing as, "Birthright citizenship." We can thank activist judges for creating chaos and neglecting their Constitutional duties. Also, Mark talks about Obamacare and says that our worst fears are slowly becoming true regarding high prices and selected care that will be given to patients. Finally, Michelle Malkin calls in and talks about Maxine Waters and her book, Culture of Corruption.

Section 5 of the 14th amendment gives Congress the authority to enforce the amendment. Congress just has to pass a law denying birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens and of course the President would have to sign it. A tall order but easier than passing an amendment.
As for McCain, he's just an irrational oligarch trying to maintain the power of the oligarchy.

John McCain Won't Reverse Anchor Baby Citizenship Status for Babies Born to Illegal Immigrants
By Rachel Alexander, on August 14th, 2010
Confident the Republican primary race for Senate is over and he will beat JD Hayworth, John McCain is already flip-flopping his way back to his pro-amnesty position. When asked whether he would call for hearings on the 14th Amendment granting automatic citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants, McCain declined, saying he thinks better border security is the way to solve the problems of illegal immigration. McCain goes against the majority of Americans on this issue. A recent Rasmussen poll found that 58% of Americans disagree that anchor babies should get automatic citizenship. That number is even higher in McCain's Arizona, where 64% disagree.
Even moderate commentators like George Will have come out against anchor baby citizenship. House Republican Minority leader John Boehner, no conservative, has said that the idea needs to be explored. "There is a problem. To provide an incentive for illegal immigrants to come here so that their children can be U.S. citizens does, in fact, draw more people to our country. I do think that it's time for us to secure our borders and enforce the law and allow this conversation about the 14th Amendment to continue." Eight percent of all babies born in the U.S. are born to illegal immigrants — even though illegal immigrants make up only four percent of the population. McCain is out of touch with the voters and no longer represents the voters of Arizona.
