I hate to break it too you, but his military service was nothing exceptional, hundreds of other Americans endured harsher treatment during captivity, and they were also much better pilots than McCain (the Black Ace, he crashed five US airplanes).

So true. When McCain was captured, he was given a Kings treatment in the enemy hospital ONLY because of his father, while other POW's suffered far worse. McCain had quite the reputation before his capture. Apparently he thought that physics and aerodynamics had nothing to do with HIS aircraft, and ignored his training trying to be a "maverick" and crashed many planes. Anybody else would have been kicked out, but again his father helped. The reports of those crashes are funny to read.
