This is a sad*moment for the United States of America.* By giving up on comprehensive immigration reform, our elected leaders gave in to the extremes in both parties.*Immigration reform is too important an issue to become a political football in which*legislators*do little else than pander to their respective political bases.*

It is clear that the immigration system is broken and needs repair.* The ineffectiveness of Congress and the tone of the debate send the wrong message about the* *government and values of the United States.* This nation has prospered economically and spiritually through the energy and talents of immigrants and it is a shame that she turn away from the Judeo-Christian values of compassion and inclusiveness towards "strangers."**

The immigrants that have been persecuted and demeaned during this debate possess the very attributes we seek in America.* They came here not looking for handouts, but intent on working their way out of poverty, just as all other immigrants have done in the past.* By their contributions to our economy through their hard work and to our society through their commitment to family and religious values, they have made the United States the envy of the world.* If we fail to recognize the contributions of these new Americans, we do irreparable damage to the U.S. national identity and impair our future economic growth.

This issue will not go away.* Congress must act now!* The Senate proposal represents an imperfect yet worthy*step toward documenting*the approximately 12 million undocumented workers, creating* a new worker program and confronting* security concerns.**Does it address all*the issues*that are important to many of us (such as family reunification)?* No, it does not.* Nevertheless, I believe*giving up now*would be a stain on this country and the ideals she holds so dear.*

President Bush and Senators Kyl and Kennedy claim that there are still signs of life for the proposal.* We must all do our part in communicating to legislators that failure is not an option we will accept.*History is being written and voters (including the new Americans) will remember those who were irresponsible in dealing with immigrants and immigration reform.*

    Please*do your part!*Call your*Senators*at

or get direct number from video*above.*

*Simply say: "Don't give up on*Comprehensive Immigration Reform!"*

I already wrote the numbers down and plan on calling them - alot.

He is making a huge mistake insulting the hard working Americans who love America by calling us those on the extreme end.

He asks the question: Why are We Affraid of Mexicans? Why is he assuming we are affraid of Mexicans? We want the Laws in America enforced and those that break the law should not get amnesty. Its' not rocket science.

He underestimates Americans resolve on this issue.

He represents the people other countries don't want or care about; when they come here illegally suddenly they are important.

Who else will join me in an email to Juan directly?

    Here's what I wrote:

I have read your article entitled, "Failure is Not an Option: Immigration Reform is Still Possible"

Why do you use the word "IMMIGRANTS" when you speak of ILLEGAL ALIENS? IMMIGRANTS?

First, let's get the terminology correct, shall we? The people you are referring to are ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Second, let's remember how these ILLEGAL ALIENS got to America, shall we? By ILLEGALLY TRESPASSING ACROSS OUR NATIONAL BORDER.

Third, let's remember that these ILLEGAL ALIENS who illegally trespassed across our national border are negatively impacting the social and economic American system. This negative impact outweighs any positive contribution that ILLEGAL ALIENS might provide for America. Let's also remember to use factual information, not rhetoric. The plain-vanilla persuasive tactic is not effective without substantiation.

    FACTS:

More than 9,000 Americans die each year because of ILLEGAL ALIENS. These deaths occur as a result of murder or drunk driving, according to the Violent Crimes Institute.

The GAO, in 2005, studied 55,322 incarcerated ILLEGAL ALIENS. The GAO calculated that the 55,322 illegal aliens studied represented a total of 459,614 arrests, some eight arrests per illegal alien. An astounding 36% had been arrested at least five times before.

At present, between 49%-61% of the ILLEGAL ALIENS do not even have a high-school diploma, according to analysis from the Pew Hispanic Center and The Heritage Foundation.

For every $10,000 earned by an ILLEGAL ALIEN, the American benefits of more than $19,000 are provided.

The poverty rate among adult ILLEGAL ALIENS is 27% (twice the rate of native-born Americans), according to The Heritage Foundation.

These facts support the economic and social impact that American citizens must face. Amnesty, aka criminal leniency, will cost American taxpayers $2.6 trillion in retirement costs alone, according to Robert Rector of The Heritage Foundation.

The recent Rasmussen Poll determined that 66% of Americans believe it does not make sense to debate new immigration laws, until we can first control our borders and enforce existing laws.

If ILLEGAL ALIENS are concerned with "family reunification", they should exit from the route they used when they illegally entered America. They can "reunifiy" with their family in the country where they originated from.

It is not the obligation of U.S. citizens, nor the obligation of America, to privide American opportunities to criminals who have entered into and live in America as ILLEGAL ALIENS. Even ILLEGAL ALIENS must learn to accept consequences for their actions. After all, we American citizens do -- we have a lawful society that punishes criminals.

Defeat of the S.1348 Bill was a VICTORY. There wasn't a sad moment at all. Just ask 74% of the American citizens who, according to the Rasmussen poll did not approve of this Bill. So you see, "failure" was not an option to the American majority.

When I read or hear comments from this phony I want to ask him if the country of Mexico actually exists. There's never any mention of Mexico's accountability for its citizens. It's as if these people materialized out of thin air, having no nation of origin. I consider him and his ilk biological warfare agents against the US.

    That's an excellent letter, LynnS.

Excellent Letter, Lynn S. The pro-illegal alien lobby just hates it when you hit them with facts. The only bullet they have is "familes being torn asunder" therefore "family reunification" is needed. The United States is not a charity organization. Maybe La Raza, with all their millions of dollars, can provide a few bucks so they can reunify in Mexico or other lands south of our border.

I don't know who I can tolerate less, Juan or Geraldo. They are both arrogant, un-American a-holes.
