    Mexican Farmers Hurt by NAFTA

Mexico, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) Mexican farmers demanded the cancellation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)chapter on agriculture, in order for the agricultural producers to survive.

The demand was announced at the closing ceremony of the First Binational Congress of Farmers and Small Farmers of Mexico and the United States.

Attendants to the meeting discussed the problem that has plunged Mexican farmers into a serious crisis, due to the interests of the agro-industry and export transnational corporations.

The principle of unity among small farmers from both sides of the border and the need to achieve fair trade among producers, respecting the neighboring markets´ feasibility, prevailed during the discussions.

In this point, there was opposition to the free trade agreements that facilitate and legalize the invasion of products under production costs, favoring the large agro-industrial corporations at the same time.

They recalled that a total opening of Mexican and US markets to agricultural products will be completed by January 2008, worsening the farmers crisis for both sides.

In consequence, there will be a displacement of thousands of farmers and indigenous people from their places of origin, and US family farming producers will almost disappear, generating an increase of migration among Mexicans.

I thought one of the perks of NAFTA was that it would keep some of the illegals home????????
How could a geeky little jug-eared man like Ross Perot have been so right and ridiculed so much ? He would be the perfect 3rd party candidate for these times.
In 08 the best we can hope for is a choice between some RINO and Hillary. If we don't get our heads out of our butts we may be so far down the tubes by then it won't really matter.

Tried to tell folks but they'd been manipulated again!
And many of those people STILL don't have a clue.

BTW, I never ridiculed Perot. He's quite a smart chap and called a spade a spade.

NAFTA has had the opposite effect. Whole farming communities in Mexico are now without adult males, because they've migrated to the United States looking for work (illegally I might add). The North American Free Trade Agreement destabilized and weakened Mexico's economy, exacerbating cross border immigration. Before the North American Free Trade Agreement, illegal immigration from Mexico was less than half of what it is now.

NAFTA forced Mexico to open its borders to subsidized and cheap U.S. corn and wheat. This meant that millions of Mexican farmers could no longer compete with the subsidized big agribusiness corn that was coming in from the U.S. So basically, they were driven out of the Mexican farming industry, unable to support themselves or their families.

    Hell, it was a SUCCESS
the results were as expected by the planners of the NAU & SPP
Now all that needs to be done is to force the ILLEGALS down American's throats for the final nail in the coffin.

All is well in NAFTA FOUNDERS land.
