Mexico foreign secretary will meet Trump Cabinet officials in DC

The Mexican secretary of Foreign Relations will meet Trump administration officials Wednesday in Washington, D.C., after a presidential visit was canceled in January following a public fight over who would pay for President Trump's proposed border wall.

Secretary Luis Videgaray is scheduled to meet Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly.

"It is expected that Secretary Videgaray will discuss topics from the bilateral agenda that have been identified as priorities by President Enrique Peña Nieto: protection of Mexicans in the United States, migration, border security and infrastructure, and the different levels of cooperation between both countries," a release sent by the Mexican government stated.

Videgaray last visited Washington in January, before Tillerson was confirmed by the Senate, when he also met with White House officials including chief of staff Reince Priebus.

That trip, a preamble to Peña Nieto's scheduled visit the following week, became contentious after Trump tweeted, "If Mexico is unwilling to pay for the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting."

After Peña Nieto canceled, the two presidents had a phone call to clear the air, but fragments of the call's transcript were leaked, further inflaming tensions. Despite the friction, the two administrations agreed not to discuss the border wall in public.

Peña Nieto and his advisers have consistently said they would continue negotiations with the United States, despite domestic pressure in Mexico to withdraw from the talks.

Democrats have made repeated calls to normalize relations with Mexico.

"The fact that there’s a meeting suggests there’s an opportunity to resolve the tensions created by Trump and that’s a good thing," said Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.), chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Do not come here with your hand out. No more extortion money to Mexico. They are not our friend. They Gravy Train is over.

You had better be presenting President Trump with a Comprehensive Plan for Reform that includes taking ALL your people back and get them to work.

Or do not come here. Clean up your corruption with YOUR money.

Mexico’s Top Diplomats Meet with State, DHS Chiefs

    by ILDEFONSO ORTIZ

    Washington, D.C.

Mexico’s top diplomats traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and DHS Secretary John Kelly.
According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by Mexico’s Foreign Ministry, Secretary Luis Videgaray met with his counterpart, Tillerson, and Kelly to discuss various bilateral issues. Some of the matters discussed include border security, infrastructure, immigration, and others. Mexican officials would not confirm if the proposed wall was discussed. According to Mexico’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting continued the dialogue between the two nations that Presidents Donald J. Trump and Enrique Peña Nieto had agreed to.

As Breitbart Texas has reported in the past, diplomatic tensions between the two countries have stirred over the current administration’s hard line on border security, illegal immigration, and the infiltration of Mexican cartels. One of the points of disagreement between the two countries has been about Mexico paying for the construction of a complete border wall.

DHS Secretary John Kelly recently visited the Texas border where he met with Governor Greg Abbott and toured some of the areas that have seen a dramatic spike in human smuggling and drug trafficking activity. During a recent hearing, Kelly spoke about some of the measures needed to better secure the border and how a wall or other physical barrier is needed in key smuggling areas.

I would leave the payment of the wall out of the conversation. Americans have every legal right of our own to tax, bill or offset Mexico for the cost of the wall and any other problem they are causing US without the agreement of the Mexican officials. Americans will do what we need to do to protect ourselves and arrange payments, offsets or taxes on US derived Mexican revenue however we deem fit to do, separate from collaborative issues between our two governments.

Personally, I don't believe we can actually trust the Mexicans at this point to hold up any part of their agreement anyway, but we'll see.
