Mexico Unemployment Rate 4.85% compared to US 9.70%
Mexico Unemployment Rate [and falling]
The unemployment rate in Mexico was 4.85 percent in March of 2010. The labour force is defined as the number of people employed plus the number unemployed but seeking work. The nonlabour force includes those who are not looking for work, those who are institutionalised and those serving in the military. This page includes: Mexico Unemployment Rate chart, historical data and news.

US 9.70% and rising.
Need a job? Go to Mexico! You are twice as likely to find one there than here, since the unemployment rate in Mexico is 50% less than the US.
Looks like Mexico "needs workers".

I met someone from the Mexican Central Bank yesterday who said that 80% of the remittance money coming from Mexicans here comes from people in the construction sector. With employment down in the sector remittances have declined and some of the people are even returning. Remittance money goes mostly to staple items including items that the recipients could have produced for themselves. Durable exenditure has been modern houses when it could have been better spent on building warehouses, factory shells and barns.
The impact which remittances could have had has been reduced by so much of it going to consumption of manufactured food. The manufactured food comes from modern plants in the cities which are already developed like Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadlajara. Mexico has the potential of growing much faster than the United States. Mexico is in a position to have Mexican families increase self sufficiency and source closer to home. The modern plants are in a position to export and sell product competitively here, Europe and Asia especially fruits and vegetables.I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The goods they spend their money on are symbolic of their short-sightedness. Here in our state, they drive new expensive trucks, shop constantly at the mall, obviously not saving anything for the future. If I lived in Mexico and depended on someone sending remittances to support me, I would live as modestly as possible and save for a rainy day, like my relative deported or the job market drying up. People who live without regard to the future will always be poor, and obviously not interested in the concept of delayed satisfaction to get ahead. And when times are tough, they will complain and expect the government up north to pony up.

The unemployment rate is far higher than stats show. They don't take into account those that have quit looking for work and have run out of benefits. The wife has been unemployed for 4 months and her unemployment runs out in two months. She won't be counted once she drops off the rolls should she not find a job.
