MORE THAN 19K SIGN ONLINE PETITION TO ARREST AND TRY HOUSE GOP LEADERSHIP FOR SEDITION
Oct. 17, 2013 12:26pm Becket Adams
An online petition posted this week to MoveOn.org calling for President Barack Obama to “arrest and try House GOP leadership for sedition” has generated thousands of signatures.
The petition calls on the “Justice Department of the United States of America to arrest Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Speaker of the House John Boehner and other decision-making House Republican leaders for the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.”
By Thursday afternoon, the petition had picked up 19,480 signatures. It needs 20,000 before it will supposedly be delivered to the White House.
“The House GOP leadership’s use of the Hastert Rule and H. Res 368 to shut down the government and threaten the U.S. economy with default is an attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act, and thus, is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy,” the petition reads. “Arrest the perpetrators in Congress immediately and bring them to justice.”
But if you think the language of the petition is a bit over the line, you should see what some of the signatories have to say about the House GOP leaders.
“Hang ‘em High…charge them with sedition and put them in the townsquare in the rack and supply everyone with bushels of rotten fruits and vegetables and force them to wear the ‘Scarlet S’ There isn’t anything bad enough for these anti-American anarchist lunatics,” user “neal schulz” posted.
“It’s a shame how grown white men act get over it already Obama is in and u can’t change History,” wrote “Brenda Barton.”
“I Hope this include’s [sic] all the Tea Party Republican’s too,” one “Kathy Stephens” wrote.
“The tea party and the representatives they paid for in Congress should be arrested,” wrote user “Nicole Sprankle.”
MoveOn Civic Action, where the petition is posted, is open to the general public. The liberal anti-war site “does not necessarily endorse the contents of petitions posted on this site,” it reminds its readers.
“MoveOn Petitions is an open tool that anyone can use to post a petition advocating any point of view, so long as the petition does not violate our terms of service,” the site states.
