Mostly US Citizens Deported in the 30's?

    Friends,

This is the first time I have ever seen any publication make the following claim....

It was the 1930´s and Mexican-Americans, even those born in the United States, including Torres´ father, were being rounded up and sent south of the border. More than 1 million, mostly U.S. citizens, were illegally deported.
It is my understanding that the US Courts were fully functional in the 1930's so I have no idea how the majority of 1 million deportees could be US citizens.

Can some of you dig in on this claim and get us the facts so we can blast this publication for lying like this.

This article is a headline on AOL news today so Millions of Americans will be deceived by this.

This is a half truth provided that you acknowledge anchor babies as citizens. Under standard international practice at the time if a child's parents were deported their children were expected to be sent with them with the option of returning as adults provided they did not take the their parents citizenship to gain benefits in their parents home country or break the law while abroad. In the 1930s the United States government with few exceptions adhered to the standard international practice but in a manner which was both legalistic and harsh as compared with current domestic government standard practice and even more so the standards and practices that the amnesty supporters and the Latino power movement wants the United States to follow.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

This is a really interesting result defying both the anti Latinos in our movement and the reparationist Latinos. You should note that the majority of people 71% in this survey poll are against the reparationist position despite the survey poll being in Spanish and the survey poll takers being overwhelmingly Latino.

U.S. urged to apologize for 1930s deportations
    http://www.alipac.us/ftopic-21457-0-day ... rasc-.html

This is where it is coming from, Co-sponsor Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., et al despite:
No precise figures exist on how many of those deported in the 1930s were illegal immigrants. Since many of those harassed left on their own, and their journeys were not officially recorded, there are also no exact figures on the total number who departed.

At least 345,839 people went to Mexico from 1930 to 1935, with 1931 as the peak year, says a 1936 dispatch from the U.S. Consulate General in Mexico City.

My understanding is legal Mexican immigrants for the most part voluntarily went back because the Mexican government was giving them land, the US government contributed some money for this program.

The illegal ones were rightly kicked out along with their minor children.

Nothing illegal about any of it.

They also don't mention that up to 1 million legal European immigrants also left WITHOUT ANY INCENTIVE, during this period US immigration was actually negative, more people were leaving than were coming in!

This is horse-hockie! The US Southwest was occupied by Mexicans, Native Americans and Caucasians when those areas were called territories.

As each territory became a state, those who were Mexican or any other culture could stay and become US citizens or vacate their property and return to Mexico/SA, et al. The only deporting done was self-deportation or as I call it, moving.

There was no movement to eliminate Mexicans. Just check the land-grants that have been handed down for generations in NM from Mexican families to their heirs. They own a nice chunk of NM.
