01-31-2009, 07:40 PM #11alamb, I think you're making a big mistake. German Americans have been here for generations. Most Hispanic Americans are either first generation or second generation so it makes sense what you're describing. I know Hispanics who've been here for MANY generations and they're as Americanized as the German Americans, like you. When Germans first came here (first generation) I can bet you there were Americans who criticized them for wearing funny hats or speaking German. Give Hispanic immigrants a chance, remember, Alipac includes members of Hispanic decent. We're a group for ALL Americans, not just European decendants

Excuse me eagaleye88 but we here do respect Hispanic Americans, it's illegal aliens of all nationalities that we have contempt for. La Raza is actually the racist organization.

Americans of "Hispanic decent" already have the same opportunities afforded to them as any other American in this country. Thus, why would la raza feel the need to speak out on their behalf?

Eagle, FYI, there are plenty of hispanics in this country whose ancestry can be traced back to way before the nation-builders ever arrived on the West Coast. Florida alone was Spanish territory until 1800s, I believe, when Spain was so disgusted with the lack of riches, they sold it to England, who was disgusted at the indefensibility, they gave it back to Spain. Finally Spain got rid of it by selling it to the new United States, 1851 I think, which was ticked about all the native American tribes helping black slaves to escape the southern US slavery.
Go back into history and we are definitely a melting pot. Point being, we have welcome anyone from anywhere as long as they come legally in this day and age. Being from an ethnic or cultural group that slithered in is not worthy of any consideration of amnesty nor our taxpayer dollars.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Ratbstard and vortex
I totally agree. My post was about alamb and his criticism of Hispanic Americans (its obvious he was referring to legal Hispanics or else he wouldn't be talking of assimilation if he were talking about illegals since they're here illegally anyways and don't belong here) and comparing them to German Americans who the vast majority of them have been here far longer than most LEGAL Hispanic Americans, so you can't say that Germans are far more assimilated then recent LEGAL Hispanic Americans when there's an obvious difference in the time both groups have been here. 50 years from now today's Hispanics will be just like todays Americans of German decent (hardly knowing how to speak Spanish and probably eating what we all eat)

Those immigrants immursed themselves into American Culture without clinging to the cultures of their homelands. They didn't have the ability to take their children back to their homelands to keep absorbing that culture.

What is really gaulling is the fact that when they return they have to have ESL classes at taxpayer expense.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

02-02-2009, 11:20 AM #19I agree with you and it is in the oath of allegiance when these immigrants become citizens as well as follows:What I have seen of the immigrants of the past 30 years is a stubborn attitude of maintaining the culture of their homelands. I am not just referring to Hispanics either. My neighborhood is now 99% Chinese and I am aware of a custom they have of sending their one year old children back to China to be raised until they are of school age. The oath of allegiance is:
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
In some cases, USCIS allows the oath to be taken without the clauses:
". . .that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by law. . .""When you have knowledge, you have a responsibility to do better"_ Paula Johnson
"I did then what I knew to do. When I knew better,I did better"_ Maya Angelou
