today that same apartment is $800 a month and its 28 years old now and no where as nice as it used to be

My goodness, you can barely rent a room in California for $800 per month, let alone a 1400 sq ft apartment. Of course, this is if you want to live in a semi-decent area and not in a thirld-world barrio as much of CA has become.
