    Dear Xxxxx,

Thank you for expressing your support for the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act. Hearing from you helps me better represent Middle Tennessee.

You will be pleased to know that I have contacted Rep. Health Schuler, the bill's sponsor, and asked to be included as an original co-sponsor of the SAVE Act. Like you, I believe this bill is an important
step forward in the fight against illegal immigration.

The SAVE Act is a strong border security and interior enforcement bill. It attacks this problem in three primary ways and does not encourage more illegal immigration with amnesty. Among the
    provisions in the bill are:

    1. Border Security: The SAVE Act increases Customs and Border Patrol agents by 8,000 and provides financial and student loan repayment incentives to help the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recruit top talent to the jobs.
    2. Enforcement of Existing Immigration Laws: The SAVE Act increases the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and increases the cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement personnel. The bill gives local law enforcement agencies more access to equipment and information to help them deal with illegal immigration in our communities.
    3. Verification of work eligibility: The SAVE Act requires employers to verify that employees are eligible to work legally in the U.S. and creates an electronic work eligibility verification system.

Know that I understand the impact illegal immigration is having on communities in Middle Tennessee and around the country.
Addressing this problem is one of my top priorities.

Again, thank you for contacting me about this important bill. Please do not hesitate to call on me if I can ever be of assistance to you or your family.

    Stay in touch,
    /s

Please call this idiot and say NO.

What part is he not getting ?

"Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said Thursday that he is working on an alternative to an immigration bill known as AgJobs, shorthand for the Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act. Cornyn-photo.jpgThe AgJobs bill would give thousands of illegal immigrant farm workers a chance to work in the United States legally and a path to citizenship. Cornyn said his plan would include a guest worker program for agricultural workers but no pathway to citizenship."

There is no WAY IN HELL this thing is passing. What makes you think the liberal dem leadership will bring an enforcement only bill of a freshman democrate to the floor for a vote???? Even if it passes the house it won't fly in the senate.

GOP's Tancredo & Sessions sign Shuler's Democratic bill to take jobs from illegal aliens
DEAR SUPPORTERS OF ATTRITION THROUGH ENFORCEMENT & SELF-DEPORTATION,
The SAVE Act by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) has gotten another big boost with the co-sponsorship of Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), the top congressional leader of the fight against illegal immigration for the last decade.

Tancredo is one of a growing number of Republicans who are putting Principle Over Party Partisanship in backing the Enforcement-Only bill that started with a few dozen Democrats.

Another new co-sponsor is Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) who was thrown by re-districting into a head-to-head election with Rep. Martin Frost (D-Texas) earlier. Sessions defeated Frost, who was one of the House Democrats' top Party leaders, in part because Frost insisted on an Amnesty and Rewards First approach to illegal immigration, while Sessions has been one of our most steadfast allies in pushing illegal aliens to go home.

Scores of Democrats and Republicans are setting aside partisan bickering on this one issue to try to actually solve a problem that is plaguing much of America.

The courageous Democrats pushing the SAVE Act are standing up to their pro-amnesty national Party leadership and Presidential candidates.

The courageous Republicans who are signing onto the SAVE Act are setting aside partisan maneuvering for next year's elections. Here's the equation:

    1. Most of the Democrats who are likely to be in competitive races next year are getting behind this bill. The freshmen Democrats, in particular, realize that if they want to be sophomore Democrats, they need to give their constituents a real solution to illegal immigration.

    2. This bill may make it harder for Republicans to defeat those freshmen Democrats and regain majority of the House.

    3. Why would Republicans help out on a bill like that?

That question came up in meetings of Republica ns this week. The Republicans are well aware that this bill will be politically advantageous back home for every Democrat who signs onto it.

But in the end, more and more Republicans, like Tancredo, Sessions and Brian Bilbray (the current chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus) are joining the Democrats because they are Putting Principle Ahead of Partisan Politics.

These Republicans who are serious about actually solving the illegal immigration problem know that nothing is going to get better soon unless they can find a lot of Democrats who are willing to join in the fight.

Heath Shuler's SAVE Act is the best opportunity in a very long time for that to happen.

Well, lets put it this way, after NumbersUSA members starting calling their reps, Shuler's office was inundated with calls, asking what the bill was about and signed on as co-sponsors. If Nancy Pelosi wants to stay speaker of the House, she is going to have to go along with her freshmen because they are the ones who got voted in and put her there in the first place.

Yes, the Senate may be a problem, but they want an angle in the 2008 election to say they are taking the issue seriously, they may just get it through. Let's face it, the Senate voted for more money for the fence, stopping SS going to Mexico, defunding Mexican trucks coming into the country, etc. Let's see the Senate's argument on this. If all employees, legal and otherwise have to be checked how is Durbin and Kennedy going to say its racist. If Graham wants to be re-elected and others like him, what do you think their vote will be? We have a good chance on this one.

You mean to tell me the freshmen dems control Pelosi now??? In the senate, harry reid decides what legislation to bring up not Graham and co. I will bet my whole life that Harry Ried and co will filibuster this IF it can pass the house(which is VERY unlikely).

Do you remember a week or so ago there was an article in alipac about the Republicans strategy to make Dems look bad. They said they were going to keep bringing up bills they knew the Dems would not vote for so they would look bad to the voters.

If this is part of their strategy it very well may work!

Good point. Actually since their approval rating is so LOW it won't take much. LOL

Just called my rep. Told the staffer that there are about 90 co-sponsors and it is BI-PARTISAN and that the congressman really needs to look at the bill coz his name is not there! Maybe shame will work.
