You work in the real estate industry so I thought that maybe you belong to associations for realtors of color. This is important info that you should pass on to your networks:


Republican operatives in Michigan have admitted that they are planning to use foreclosure information to "clarify" voter rolls. What this means is that they are attempting to impede people's right to vote by challenging them on their address. Since they plan to have already pinpointed who has lost their home, all they have to do is make a mark on the rolls for the precinct workers. When the person comes in to vote, they will be challenged.


Though they may vote a provisional, what this will do is create an intense back up in the street as people line up to vote. If the line looks like it will be longer than 2 hours, most people will not be able to vote.


Today's Democracy Now with Amy Goodman carried the story.


The Republicans now claim, since they have been outed, that they will not be specifically looking through foreclosure lists, only cleaning up the rolls. That strategy will likely involve sending out non-forwardable mail to ALL addresses in areas where there is a high percentage of foreclosed homes. When the mail20returns undeliverable, that automatically takes the person off the rolls. AT that stage, they will have to wait to re-register, I think.


SO, as realtors and upstanding men concerned about their community, I am asking that you spread the word IMMEDIATELY on a NATIONAL scale that folks need to find out ASAP if they have enough time to file their change of address in order to vote on Nov 4th. If they do not, the Nat'l Realtor's Assoc. needs to help figure out a way for these folks to have their votes counted because it will DISPROPORTIONATELY affect black folks, latinos, and poor white folks. Under the Voter's Registration Act, it could be deemed illegal, but that would be a lengthy lawsuit.


Get folks to change those addresses and inform them that they have the right to vote on a provisional ballot, provided they have not already been removed.


Please get the word out. You should have a handle on this by Monday, Sept 22nd.


If this tactic is employed in California, for example, almost the entire city of Santa Ana would lose their vote. Santa Ana was one of the first cities to go down in flames over the sub-prime mortgage lending scandal. It is also the most chicano city in the nation. This is not a new tactic. Florida Republicans used this to help cast doubt on Gore's lead two administrations back...

Oh well......if your legal it should be no problem and too friggin bad if you have to wait. I am sure if people have been in line and waiting the poll will not close till you have voted.

They should check up on people....I live in a College town and it is widely known that many college students actually VOTE TWICE!!!

Our elections are a JOKE....I don't trust any "numbers" they come to and there are much better methods to assure that we are not victims of fraud by either VOTERS or by the people "allegedly" COUNTING the "votes".

My Ukranian maternal grandmother, a LEGAL refugee from COMMUNISM, had NOTHING against WAITING for HER chance to become an AMERICAN and during the time she was still a LEGAL resident, she did NOT vote! NOR do my LEGAL resident BRAZILIAN friend or the LEGAL resident Brazilian Catholic priest who has been our good friend for several years. The priest says it is a GRAVE breach of trust for NON-citizens to vote in OUR elections since ONLY citizens are legally able to vote. In fact, he said it is a MORTAL sin for NON-citizens--legal resident or illegal alien--to knowingly and willingly vote in OUR elections!
