Obama Directs This Action Nationwide To Show Solidarity With France

"An appalling attack on freedom"

As a show of solidarity with the people of France, President Obama ordered all flags be flown at half staff until Tuesday to honor those killed in the Nice terror attack Thursday night.

At an event at the White House on Friday, Obama described the killing of 84 people, including two Americans, by a Tunisian-French national “an appalling attack on freedom.” Ten children were among the dead when the deranged terrorist drove more than a mile on the promenade in Nice at a high rate of speed, swerving back and forth in an attempt to hit as many people as possible. He also left over 200 injured, dozens critically so.

“Today, our hearts are with the people of France and with all the innocent men, women and so many children who were hurt or killed in this sickening attack,” Obama said.

“This includes Americans that we know of — a family from Texas, a father and young son, just 11 years old, who were there on vacation. Their family, like so many others, are devastated. They’re grieving. They need all the love and support of our American family as they grapple with an unimaginable loss, and try to get through what are going to be very difficult days,” he added.

As he has done in the past, Obama also directed forceful language against those would seek to implement policy changes within the United States directed at those who adhere to the Muslim faith.

“In the wake of last night’s attacks, we’ve heard more suggestions that all Muslims in America be targeted, tested for their beliefs, some deported or jailed,” he said.

“The very suggestion is repugnant and an affront to everything we stand for as Americans.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan ordered the flags over the U.S. Capitol to be flown at half staff, as well.
