Obama gives GOP hope for Latino vote

The failure to pursue comprehensive immigration reform is the monster under President Obama’s bed. It will emerge to haunt him on election evening 2012.



But my guess is that Obama is not worried about that. Democrats tend to take Latino and other minority voters for granted. After all, the thinking goes, what are they going to do? Vote Republican?



Maybe.



The GOP has several Latino elected officials who are being talked up as vice presidential material. And they are all polishing their conservative credentials.



One is Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who filed paperwork to create a conservative Reclaim America PAC, according to Politico.

Another is New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, whose efforts to repeal a law allowing illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses was foiled by Democrats in the Legislature this year. She’s expected to include that issue in her call for a special session next month, according to the Farmington Daily News.

Then there is Nevada’s Gov. Brian Sandoval. The Las Vegas Sun calls him the “golden childâ€
