Vote for the BEST Republican most able to defeat McCain

Holding out for the best candidate makes as much sense as looking for your best rifle to defend yourself from the bear that just broke through your window when you already have a high caliber pistol in your hand.

Does anybody have any other analogies that can break the spell of the idealists who refuse to stop John McCain with Mitt Romney? The Ron Paul line of 'reasoning' is irrational and dangerous.
[b] If we do not insist on Voter ID, how can we stop illegals from voting?

Precisely. Ron Paul and Huckabee will not get the nomination. Huckabee is staying in to only help defeat Romney and get a post from McCain. Wake up folks. We don't want Mclinton.

    Another example:

Imagine you platoon is guarding a trail that prevents the enemy from coming over the mountain pass. Should you wait for the tank brigade that will take 3 days to assist you, or should you send up your best sniper?

Or imagine your daughter just got bit by a snake on a night when civil disorder has kept the ambulances too busy to respond quickly. Should you wait for the ambulance that will likely arrive too late, or should you take your child to the hospital in your car?

Imagine wanting to represent a party where a majority of its members do not want or vote for you to represent them

If the candidates do not have enough delegates, there will be a brokered convention. Delegates need to pay the state RNC and declare who they are supporting, if the candidate that wins does not have enough delegates, than the delegates who paid will go and support their candidate. Have you applied to become a delegate? I have, and this just gives you a clue as to how it works. Note that it states that party chairman and unpledged delegates can vote for whomever they want, they do not have to go with who wins the primary. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/02/ ... index.html

Stop trying to make people switch who they want to vote for. I am no longer willing to vote for someone I do not whole heartedly support just because he can win. I am voting for someone I believe can win if everyone would stop the attitude of "I need to vote for who can win". I am voting who best represents me.
