Obama's ratings surge above 50% in two polls

President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have surged in two polls conducted since he delivered his well-received speech on the Tucson shooting - with even the vast majority of Republicans giving the president high marks for how he’s handled the tragedy.

In a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Tuesday morning, 54 percent of Americans said they approve of how Obama is doing his job, while 43 percent disapprove.

His approval rating is the highest it’s been in the poll since April, while his disapproval was last as low as 43 percent in March 2010. In December, 49 percent of Americans surveyed for the Post-ABC poll approved of Obama’s performance, while 47 percent disapproved.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey also released Tuesday pegged the president’s approval rating at 53 percent and his disapproval at 43 percent. In December, the poll showed Americans evenly divided, with his approval and disapproval rates both at 48 percent.

Obama delivered his speech on the Tucson shooting on Jan. 12, and both polls were conducted in the days after he spoke.

In the Post-ABC poll, 78 percent of Americans said they approve of how Obama has responded to the shooting, including 91 percent of Democrats and 71 percent of Republicans. Sarah Palin does less well, with 30 percent saying they approve of how she responded to the shooting while 46 percent said they disapprove of her response.

Americans’ views of Obama’s leadership skills have been bolstered by his handling of the shooting, the CNN poll suggests. Fifty-nine percent of those surveyed said they think the president is tough enough to handle a crisis, up from 53 percent from a poll conducted last year, and 57 percent said they see him as a strong and decisive leader, up 4 percentage points.

The Washington Post-ABC News poll surveyed 1,053 adults Jan. 13-16. The error margin is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. The CNN poll was conducted Jan. 14-16 and surveyed 1,014 adults. Its error margin is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Oops! Perhaps we should run back into the Republican camp?

Get to work you bunch of loafers. Your days are numbered as the divide and conquer days are coming to an end. One stupid poll will not run people in either direction, work done is your only hopes.

CNN is reporting a 15% increase in favor of Obama by independants. Scary part is they were the main factor he got in in the first place.

I tend to read a little further into this nightmare. It was Hollywood and the MSM combined with Madison Ave., backed by Wall St. that formed a most perfect propaganda blitz upon the mush mellons, (the youth) and other miscreants that were mesmerized by the lights and a smooth talking con-man and reinforced by the other ticket holder Juan McAmnesty, the detriment of the right that made possible the creation of a most favored puppet since the days of Howdy Doody.

Also who else could pull off the issuance of debt at this scale other than a super star with much creds to expend as needed, thus the wonders of Wonder Boy, America's Hope and Change. Wall Street"s wonderful gift that keeps on giving. JMO

Besides, I tend not to believe much about these polls, as anyone could go into any body piercing studio, pornography shop, or pet store that sells Hampsters and get similar poll results.

The country is falling apart thanks to the last two years of Obama's failed policies, and over half the voters are still drooling over Obama... Because of one speech in Tucson, they are in love with Obama again? Duh! I'm depressed, I don't get it? I feel we now have too many stupid people with short memories who are now out-numbering us.

Molly Take heart. Keep in mind that one speach is not going to save Obama. He has a little under 2 years to mess up even more. The people are still going to remember the lies, the unemployement, the illegals, and his siding with the muslims. Still plenty of time and work to put a good REAL AMERICAN into office. Keep up the fight, keep the faith, keep God in your heart and vote for the person who is going to put GOD back into GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I pray you are right Bill... I don't think this country can survive six more years of Obama... The thing I fear the most is because of the poor economy, more people will be collecting welfare and unemployment checks...(I know several people who like collecting checks rather than be out looking for work, they plan to milk it as long as they can)... People just might vote for Obama to keep the checks coming in even longer!

I see other presidential polls actually. And I trust them quite a bit more.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -10

Overall, 48% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove. "

By looking at the historical polls also Rasmussen looks to be fairly even playing field. Also showing a 10% higher "Strongly Disapprove" rating then "Strongly Approve" looks fairly obvious to me.

I'm betting though if any illegal enforcement legislation or birthright legislation comes up and he veto's or speaks against his numbers will drop 10% easy. Right around the Dream Act vote timeframe his "Total Disapprove" spiked and his "Total Approve" ratings dropped a fair chunk.
