Is there anywhere that feels like home in the U.S.?

Meaning everybody speaks English and there is no bilingual signs in public institutions (not counting goods labeled bilingually by the manufacturer, I'm talking about seeing signs in stores)? Anywhere where the "old" America still exists?

Other than the Dem gov. here I really like Montana. Only time we see illegals is when the murel mushrooms are in season. People here have the good ol boy feelings and alot more freedom then you find in most any other state. Freedom to carry firearms, freedom to speak and not be front page news. Kids still go to school even when its -15 and 2 feet of snow. We celebrate the 4th of july and mean it. We also stop everything and welcome home our troops when they come back. Kids pledge to the flag and actually know the words, they also know the words to the national anthem. We help eachother, say hi to folks we don't even know. If you drive through town people wave to ya and you don't even have a clue who they are. Cold in winter..hot in summer...warm hearts and love of country and especially love of GOD. Churches outnumber bars and Sundays are for worship and maybe take the family to the stream to fish and have a snack in the shade of a big ol pine tree. Yes this is America here. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

Wow, what is Montanna doing right?????
Wish we could do something about the damned signs. I'm getting pissed seeing jobs requiring us to be bilingual and speak spanish too.

Sounds great except the "good old boy" part (I interpret that as not a gentleman but a chauvanist!). No, I'm not a "feminazi", don't worry! But other than that, sounds great.

Realistically could a single female who is 4'10 1/4" tall survive winters there (worried about getting "snowed in" and being too physically weak to dig myself out!!)? Or should I get married first before I move?!!!
It would be a HUGE step from SoFL weatherwise...that's for sure. Culturewise, my grandparents were Southerners (and they had a big part in raising me) sounds like identical cultural values that you described and I wouldn't mind that.

Good Ol Boys here means we use common sense, raise our kids to respect parents, family, and yes even the police. Most here feel that if your a kid and the police bring you home you had better have been lost. Yes we will take the kid behind the ol woodpile and adjust the attitude a bit. Nothing wrong with a good ol swat ont he butt to put a kid back on the right path. Here we teach the kids to fish and lie about their fish...lol. We also teach them how to handle firearms in the right way and how to hunt. Here the police know everyone and everyone knows them. The police know what car you drive, if you have been stopped and if your a problem. If you respect them they respect you but they also will lock you up if they feel it is needed. I am a police commissioner here in town and I know we have some of the best officers anyone would want protecting them. Yes we have some drugs here and while its a problem its also a situation the Law Enforcement and town fathers are taking steps to address it. Good Ol Boys watch out for everyone. Our Idea of neighborhood watch is everyone sitting outside on a clear night and watch the stars.

    BillCunnane,

Fair enough of your description...it would also be nice to see more American INTACT FAMILIES DOING STUFF TOGETHER instead of people only caring about yapping on their cell phone and living in their own little dream worlds of the computer and video games. I prefer to look at wildlife instead of shooting it (but assuming the people are open to all kinds of nature lovers not just the hunting type). I fish just for the thrill of the catch and wind up throwing them back...I just don't have the heart to take a life-though I do eat meat-I buy mine dead at the grocery store (LOL).

But do you think a woman petite in stature such as myself would be able to survive there living alone? I would not wish to live in a condo setting, it would be a house with a yard for me.

Ya got that right. I lived in Anchorage over 20 years ago, and illegals were looking for American women to marry.....which they found. Women would marry these guys, (for a stiff fee) after a year or so divorce them, and never live with them. These women would run that play over and over and over again! The illegals worked in the restaurants, bakerys, hotels, etc. We still have family living there and today, in Alaska, the illegals are in the construction trade......and working on the north slope. Any Alaskan knows the kind of money that is made working on the North Slope
