People in the dark about illegals!
Today was another eye opener for me. I had a "heated" conversation with my sister-in-law. She is a constant proponent of the illegals here. She keeps insisting they need the work, they had nothing in Mexico, they are treated terribly there (when she says this I think she's referring to the indigenous Mexicans versus the Spanish-Mexicans) and on like that. She would not listen when I stated the fact that 95% of Mexican nationals had jobs before they came here, and that even IF they didn't they were breaking our laws by coming here without permission.
I fail to understand why people will stand up for these people. She kept saying "there are plenty of Russians here that are not citizens". Now tell me, is that possible for someone from overseas to come here, as easily, undetected by our agents at ports of entry (say like airports)? Personally I cannot see how they could get by without a passport and/or visa. She insisted many are here illegally.
Other than pure ignorant arrogance what is it that makes people think the illegals are helping or benefiting anyone but themselves and their relatives in Mexico?
I would love to have some really good information to print out for her and others, to show them they have it all wrong, they are misinformed. Show me the links people, I know about CIS, good stuff, and am looking for anything else that is comprehensive."In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. Tim I do not know why she is so against them. She seems to think they have absolutely no reason to be here, but yet see's nothing wrong with people who come here completely against our laws.
My daughters best friend is 22, came here when she was 8 from Russia. She learned English in 6 months. Her entire family came when it was an on and off situation over there. They wanted out for religious reasons (even with communism broke up they were still being pushed around by government). All of her family have become citizens, she's working on it.
Each encounter I have had with any of the current Russian immigrants have been positive, they are polite, try very hard to learn English and are polite. My encounter with Mexican immigrants has not been the same. They have a total disregard for common courtesies, our laws, our culture and our standards.
Another example; a Romanian family we became friends with were allowed here on a lottery visa. Not long ago this woman (who by the way learned impeccable English in under 5 years on her own) was so proud to tell me she had become a citizen in time to vote! She was so happy and proud of her voting status. This couple talked about a moral debate going on in our county, we all agreed on our religious values being against this subject, however they both said it was so good to see people protesting and speaking up for what they beleive was wrong. So to hear this made me confident that visa'a are going to people who really want to become citizens and integrate into American society."In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. liz- the russians were allowed in because of their religious thing - old believers- although I know of one russian family-who were high up communists- and non believers- when they saw thier country going down- they went to church for a year and then applied and came here-
the russians are never going to be the problem the mexicans are because unless they come through alaska they cant come in the millions. russia is having its own problem with illegal imm. as is italy.
there was a very good article last week from the pew center for hispanic studies- I posted a little thread about it on this section- and virginia mama posted the entire article- anyway- it says that mexicans do have jobs in mexico - its just that they can make twice as much money here- so they come for money not due to starvation- this needs to be known-
you could give her a copy --also let her know that in some parts of mexico - the people left behind have stopped working the land- they have become welfare recipients due to the wages of the illegals--

AmericanElizabeth--your sister in law doesn't know the facts; doesn't know the monumental problem; doesn't know the threat to our sovereignty; and may if you look deep....could have a personal reason for this...a friend; neighbors; co-worker; business interest you aren't aware of; Democrat; Catholic; Lutheran; Church of Christ (all part of Open Borders Lobby)....and thus may be overly influenced by these "teachings" turning our country into the Third World.
Catholics are waking up and breaking stride with the doctrine on this issue but it may not have hit your area yet.
Democrats have a tendency to believe we are a nation of immigrants...which we are not....we are a nation of settlers and have only tolerated immigration for specific reasons and in certain numbers. This works great for America and immigrants. But, open door policy; anybody come; illegally; or even in excess numbers legally beyond what our nation can support or sustain is NATIONAL SUICIDE.
It's ASSISTED NATIONAL SUICIDE without our permission which makes it MURDER OF A NATION!!
Keep talking to her; avoid argument; her mind with catch on soon when it affects her or someone near her.
And she could just be part of that 4% considered stuck on illegals and hopeless.
Hey--work on your brother and then let him persuade her....

I'll work on her, she just is one of those people that cannot be wrong. I know my brother feels the same way. I have been avidly handing out little notes to family members with ALIPAC's site on it and that of Oregonians for Immigration Reforms site too. I keep pestering them all to get more involved. I continuously forward ALIPAC and NUMBERS notices about legislation.
I think many people are so lulled into a comfortable place that they just do not want to get up from it.
On this subject, in our paper here, we have been having on a pretty regular basis, an area in our "Metro" section (commentary area) devoted to immigration letters to the paper. This is a new avenue for this liberal paper. They have regularly printed "boo-hoo" stories about illegal aliens, usually calling them just "immigrants". So this is a nice change for us locally.
Still here in Oregon if you go out and picket against events involving illegals, then you have these bleeding heart groups calling you a racist and screaming in your face, although those picketing only have signs, do not chant and do not say anything derogatory. Then the papers have shown captions with a picture of the group, referring to them as "anti-immigrant". Making them sound like they are so hateful."In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. Yeah--she's probably part of the 4% that you'll NEVER convince, AmericanElizabeth. Might as well wash your hands of her and mark her off your list. These people are ostriches. They just bury their heads in the sand and refuse to see reality. Your point about the Russians who have come here brings up the issue that we've discussed MANY TIMES on the site. It seems that ANY OTHER FOREIGNER who immigrates to America does so with the RIGHT INTENTIONS. AND, they seem willing and EAGER to assimilate. The ONLY GROUP that I can see who has their OWN AGENDA are the Hispanics who immigrate to America. And, their agenda is to introduce THEIR culture and THEIR language to OUR country--NOT the reverse.

AmericanElizabeth, it is also possible for people from other countries who come here on a visa to overstay their visas and become illegal immigrants. All of the people involved in 9-11 were such people. It isn't that the only illegals in this country came from Mexico. Many came from South America but walked into this country across the Mexican border.

SPEAKING of Iraq--weren't y'all FLABBERGASTED to hear BUSH ADMIT how many Iraq's have been killed?? AND, within hours, someone in the government issued a statement that those figures were not "OFFICIAL". In other words, the damn PRESIDENT has NOT made it HIS BIDNESS to find our how many innocent Iraqi people have DIED because HE decided to "CHANGE THE FACE OF THE MIDDLE EAST". THAT is a DISGRACE. And, my guess is 30,000 is a LOW estimate.
It is important to note that THIS PARTICULAR EVENT was NOT SCRIPTED and the audience not HAND PICKED!! AND, you can now see WHY they can't turn him loose with the press and audience asking questions because the man HAS NO CLUE."POWER TENDS TO CORRUPT AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY."
