Promoting National Security and Community Safety

The Center for Immigration Studies hosted a conversation on October 12 highlighting the Center’s new report on the value of biometrics in immigration enforcement and how that relates to national security and public safety. The starting point for conversation was the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) proposed regulations on the collection and retention of various forms of biometric data.

Dan Cadman, a Center fellow and author of the report, said, “Changes in the collection, retention, and use of biometric identifiers is long overdue given the advances which have been made in this field. The proper and updated use of biometrics will substantially aid in protecting the national security and the public safety and combating fraud in the immigration and naturalization benefits processes. But biometric policies must be very concise and take into account privacy issues.”
Monday’s streamed event featured Dan Cadman, a retired INS / ICE official with thirty years of government experience and was moderated by Jessica Vaughan, the Center’s director of policy studies.
