libbeebell, words like gringo, racist, xenophobe, bigot, etc. etc. are used by the pro-illegal bunch to turn people off. The illegal supporters will use these words to make us feel bad, to make us cower, to get us to shut up and back off.
By using these same words in a joking or sarcastic manner, we are actually making them less potent. Although I understand completely what you are saying, I ask that you not buy into the significance these words seem to have. Use the words yourself, if you like, and you will see that it does us no harm.
When someone now calls me a racist, bigot, gringo, I just laugh and say
"Yes I am, and proud of it, if it means I am in favor of enforcing our existing laws regarding illegal immigration."
Turn these "dirty" words into meaningless epithets. That is all they are.
Embrace your gringo-ness.<div>Want some ICE with that cervesa?</div>

After reading my original post, I've edited it to make it more understandable! I was typing so fast, I left out a word or two (sorry)!
