Thread: Anyone Ever Try This? Press 1 for English Tip!

Yesterday, I had to call my cable co. I go absolutely ballistic when I have to press 1 for English, so I have taken to screaming I WANT ENGLISH AND I'M NOT PRESSING ONE!!!!!!

I usually get about halfway thru the second sentence of my "mantra" and I either get English or a real live person who somehow knows Im livid and is sweet as pie and kissing my ass.

Works like a charm everytime!

I think these automated systems must have some sort of an "irritation trigger" on them. What Im hoping for is that this is also all being recorded and maybe these big companies will wake up one day and realize how offensive it is to have to take an extra step just to get ENGLISH.

My family has been bugging me for a long time about the 'ranting' I do when I get the 'press one' BS! I have gotten through on many occasions because I 'yelled' and refused to press 'one'. But other times I just get a response, "sorry I did not hear your answer' or 'that is not a valid selection'. I usually just keep calling back and pressing for the operator, it's my dime. Keep up the good work, we should not need to press anything for English. Everything should be in English, after all it's for Americans, we are not the UN switchboard!

It's nothing more than the voice recognition interface which uses a phonic dictionary and a Markov sliding scale scoring system catching the word "English" and recognizing as a scripted alternate option for "1".

Used to build voice portals...pretty simple actually...

Keep on doing it...and hell while you are at it - speak like someone from India speaking British English with a Indian accent...if it still works...then my compadres did a pretty damn good job.

Besides, its fun to scream at robots!

I usually just do nothing...just hang on.....pretty soon someone comes on the line and I tell them my feelings on the matter...works for me...

Oh yes, it was Senator Obama last Tuesday. Maybe he'd prefer that us parents learn Spanish too.

I have gotten people on the phone after I press "1" for English and then ask "why do I have to press one for English when this is America and our language is English?". I usually get someone who agrees totally and makes note to pass along to higher up that I protested the need to accomodate .

However, I have also had my moments of rant too.
