Yes, illegals, especially those with assistance from the drug cartels, don't find it difficult to get through our current bollard fencing system. That's why I would rather have the actual border walls that are steel rebar reinforced concrete that Trump campaigned on.

Whatever the case a border wall is just part of the puzzle that needs filled in ....... a very important part IMO.

I don't know what a cross section looks like but concrete can be smashed pretty quick, even with reinforcing. Unless maybe a double layer of reinforcing. I always thought some type of stainless steel mesh in it to prevent cutting. Gotta remember, a lot of these illegals are masonry and concrete workers to begin with.

I don't think anyone is going to bust through a 12 foot wide steel rebar-enforced wall very quickly.

Steel reinforced concrete is a dominant construction technology in Latin America. That is why places like Brazil and Panama have lots of highrises. I don't mind "Build the

Wall" as a rhetorical device to gain support. And honestly I haven't read the appropriations bill to know what it really says. I think what DHS really needs is some high level team strategizing. It's just another political football when Trump has to replace someone at the top, so I would rather see some brainstorming on how to deter the opposition and infiltrators through better policy decisions.

Trump needs to keep on doing all the things he's working on in the Executive Branch. To me, he's done more behind the scenes to help our cause in the short and long run than any President in my lifetime, so he just needs to keep on, keeping on, and announce it when it's finalized. I love the new USMCA that raises wages dramatically in Mexico which will reduce "economic" migration from Mexico. I love the new Remain in Mexico policy he's been negotiating for months to counter that "OTM", Other Than Mexicans, free dance into the US. I love the efforts he's had with Mexico in convincing them to use their money to help build economic opportunity in Central America, $30 billion over the next 6 years. I love his position of withholding or refusing to distribute our economic aid to these countries and Mexico until they demonstrate efforts to secure their own countries and people to stop migration into the US. I love the Travel Ban, and hope he can expand that to include other countries that are responsible for high levels of illegal migration into the US. I love the new regulation he's working on that will curb green cards being issued to anyone including illegal aliens who are or would become a public charge or welfare user in the US. And there's many others, but those are some of the really big ones.

That said, I believe we need walls in many locations and I love the President's plan to use unspent funds and the military to build it. Army Corps of Engineers designs the walls being built now, so the military is already involved. And I love that concertina wire the military put up to stop the caravans. That stuff is beautiful.

The success, if there is any, of some of the things you're mentioning remains to be seen. There is no funding authorized for a border wall, not unspent funds, military funds, or any other funds. This is all just 'Trump talk.' Additionally, the concertina wire was just a temporary fix. I'm not even sure of how successful it was. The aid to Mexico or Central America has not been disrupted to my knowledge. Actually we recently heard that over 10 billion dollars of aid is targeted for Mexico and Central America.

As for NAFT2, it's too early to tell if it will have an effect at all at slowing illegal immigration from Mexico and it's certainly not going to stop drug smugglers, human trafficking, and other folks with criminal intent. It will also have no impact on Central American citizens.

Right now we have a record number of illegals crossing our borders illegally, not to mention the huge number of asylum claimants surrendering themselves to border patrol and submitting asylum claims at our port of entries. We also seem to have an unprecedented number of illegals and/or asylum claimants being released into our interior.

IMO, you're painting a false picture in addition to adding some "fake news."

LOL!! You know, MW, it's because of people who think like you do that no President or Congress ever tried to do anything about illegal immigration and after what Trump who dared to try, has gone through on this issue, trust me, no one ever will again.

Like I've said before, the only progress we're going to make on stopping illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration, is whatever this dear President Trump can accomplish on his own by himself with his own powers and authorities through the Executive Branch.

Actually Jeff Sessions was getting a lot done on his own and I'm sure he would have continued to do so. Oh, that's right, Trump fired him. If illegal immigration was as high a priority as Trump has led us to believe, Sessions should have been the last person he fired!

Yeah, I think Jeff Sessions tried hard to fix some of the things that are wrong with our system, but the role of the US DOJ in immigration is very small, outside of arguing in lawsuits, they just handle the deportation and asylum hearings, have an enormous back-log, and couldn't keep up. Hopefully, some of the things he did will show some fruit. I sure hope so anyway.
