Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) has earned the nation's largest immigration reform group's top nod for his steadfast commitment to securing the nation's borders and enforcing immigration law.

"There is no silver bullet to solving illegal immigration," Congressman Kingston said "but from strengthening border controls, targeting those who knowingly employ illegal aliens, and ensuring that taxpayer-funded programs go only to taxpayers, there are solid steps we can take toward ending the uncontrolled immigration. I am honored by this recognition and will continue my fight."

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) awarded its "People's Representative Award" to Congressman Kingston at the annual Hold Their Feet to the Fire Rally in Washington. The rally, which brings activists, media and lawmakers to discuss immigration reform, featured the largest ever gathering of talk radio including 47 hosts.

Top on the group's issues this year were the cost and impact of continued illegal immigration on jobs, wages, education, the environment and national security, the loopholes within current health care reform proposals which could allow illegal aliens to access taxpayer-funded benefits, need reauthorization of E-Verify and the upcoming debate on an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws.

Congressman Kingston has long been a leading advocate of E-Verify, a government program which allows employers to instantly verify the legal working status of job applicants. Over the last several years, he has offered amendments to require anyone doing business with the federal government to participate in the program. After months of delays, a similar requirement was recently enacted.

"True immigration reformers have no greater friend than Congressman Jack Kingston. The Congressman has worked tirelessly to extend E-Verify and has led the fight in Congress to reform our immigration laws. For his efforts, FAIR is proud to recognize Congressman Jack Kingston as the 2009 recipient of the 'People's Representative Award,'" said Dan Stein, President of FAIR.

Founded in 1979, FAIR currently has over 250,000 members who work to improve border security, stop illegal immigration, and promote immigration levels it believes are more consistent with the national interest. It is a non-partisan group whose membership runs the gamut from liberal to conservative.
