REP. MARSHA BLACKBURN TELLS TPNN: ‘THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NEED TO STAND UP’

Posted 10.16.13 by Greg Campbell, TPNN Political Analyst

Tennessee Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn has pulled no punches in her fight against Obamacare. Attitudes by Republicans in the House seem to sway wildly as several principled House GOP members work against Obamacare as House Republican Party leaders repeatedly speak boldly, but seem to fold under the weight of even modest pressure from Democrats.
Rep. Blackburn has dedicated herself to making realistic progress in the fight against Obamacare. Her bill, H.R 2809, calls for a delay of the implementation of Obamacare for one year-a time that can be used by Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to assess the fiscal feasibility of the healthcare overhaul that has, seemingly, come off the tracks before even leaving the station.
Rep. Blackburn’s commitment to delaying Obamacare has resonated with many Republican House members as 120 cosponsors have signed on.

Recently, Rep. Blackburn sat down with The Tea Party News Network to discuss the Obamacare fight, whether it really is “the law of the land,” and most importantly, what Tea Party citizens can do to help in this fight.
“The American people are looking at what they see in Obamacare and they’re going, ‘Wait a minute, this is not what we were promised,’” Blackburn began. “We were told that health insurance was going to cost less, that health insurance access was going to be easier and that this would save not only individuals, but the government money. What we’re seeing is that it’s the exact opposite. That’s what we hear from our constituents and they call in and they are very, very concerned about it.”
Blackburn also highlighted the evident long-term folly of continually borrowing money to keep government afloat,
“The people are going, ‘Wait a minute, we are borrowing $2 billion a day to keep the lights on?’ This is not a strategy for success; we’ve to do something about this. All that we have done over the past many months on bringing to the forefront the spending issues, the jobs and economy issues, the impact of Obamacare, the impact of regulation, it seems as though now people are really paying attention because they’re beginning to hear from their employers and insurance companies that their insurance and healthcare situations are going to change drastically next year.”
The skyrocketing cost of Obamacare is well-documented, yet Democrats continue to fight on to protect funding for the program despite the wild unsustainability of the healthcare overhaul. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) revealed last month that the proposed one-year delay would reduce the deficit by over $35 billion. Though Rep. Blackburn notes that defunding Obamacare is not likely to occur with the Democrat-controlled Senate and White House as obstacles, she remains steadfast in her commitment to delay Obamacare in order to gather momentum for a repeal and replacement of the disastrous program.
“So many people will say that we know that defunding [Obamacare], repealing it, getting rid of it right now won’t happen because we don’t have the Senate and we don’t have the White House. But certainly, the legislation I have, the one year delay [of Obamacare], people are very, very supportive of that, they are supportive of delaying the individual mandate, they are supportive of delaying the taxes; they feel like it is a fairness issue. The president has given 1,700 waivers to the friends of Barack; he has made 19 delays of the program and he doesn’t have the authority to do that, only the Congress can delay that. He is trying to pick and choose which parts of the law he will implement… The president should either implement the whole thing or delay the whole thing; work with us to delay the whole thing. He cannot do this by executive order; he cannot do this by executive fiat. He’s got to come to Congress and say, ‘Let’s delay it or let’s implement it.’”
This fight against Obamacare is not merely a fight that can be fought on Capitol Hill; instead, Blackburn insists that Americans must become informed and inform others of the facts surrounding the issue.
“Do you realize that Obamacare has gone from being an $863 billion access to insurance program to a $2.6 trillion takeover- a nationalization of the entire healthcare sector? It’s 17% of our economy,” Blackburn exclaimed.
Recognizing the power of the grassroots Tea Party Movement, Blackburn urged Tea Partiers to get involved in the fight, saying,
“[Tea Partiers] can go sign up for my email newsletter and forward it. We need to be educating people on what is exactly happening. Follow us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, stay in touch with us and forward this information that we are sending out. We cannot let this program take hold, take over our economy and then have it be something that puts our country on the pathway to fiscal ruin. We can’t afford the $2 billion a day that we are borrowing now to keep the government afloat; we cannot add a program to it that has already gone from $863 billion to $2.6 trillion over a ten year period of time. If we have to go and borrow another billion dollars a day in order to implement this program, think about how expensive that is going to be. I know so many people are so very serious about helping get this nation’s fiscal health in order; we need their help. The American people need to stand up and be the people and hold Washington accountable, hold their elected representatives accountable.”
