CrocketsGhost has a good plan of action titled "A serious plan of action" in the general discussion blog. If we all pitch in, I am sure that we can make some real progress.

    Look for ancillary crimes

While government officials don't really care to enforce laws against illegal aliens you will find the illegal aliens are often violating other laws as well. Look for cars with out of state license plates--especially North Carolina. If they've been around more than the allowed time report it to the local police. Violations of housing and health codes are also common. Report an excess number of people living in one apartment or building to authorities.

Good idea, Artclam. What is the most effective department to contact if we see anything suspicious?

It depends on where you are

Well, it depends on where you are. Usually the local police are most concerned about cars not being registered in the proper state; But if it is a high crime area they may have more important things to do. The building inspector, health inspector, or fire marshall is usually the one concerned about overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. Also notify the fire marshall about blocked exits. Their interest is usually more affected by how well they are funded than being distracted by more serious crime. If the folks have unlicensed dogs or engage in cock-fighting notify animal control or the local SPCA. You have to check into the laws in your municipality and state. Some things you wouldn't know unless you looked them up; in my town having more than two cars in the driveway at one time or keeping the garbage cans past the front of the house are violations as well as running a business from a home in a residential zone without a variance. Even if you do baby sitting at your home or after school tutoring you need to get a variance. If you see an ad for a "cleaning woman wanted" or "quiere mujer" this is a violation of state and federal laws; you can't discriminate in employment on the basis of sex. In many jurisdictions commercially licensed vehicles cannot be parked overnight in residential zones. You can't keep gas grills within 6' of a dwelling in some states. There are so many things. Most state laws are on-line. Local codes are available for viewing at city hall and usually the public library.

How about the IRS? I can't seem to find an address of phone # to report cheats...
Just because you're used to something doesn't make it right.
