A Republican senator from Oklahoma urged President Trump not to end the “Dreamers” program, saying the United States does not “hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents.”
“It is right for there to be consequences for those who intentionally entered this country illegally,” Sen. James Lankford said in a statement released on Monday. “However, we as Americans do not hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents.”
His comments come a day after a report in Politico revealed that Trump was prepared to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program – known as DACA – in six months, which would give Congress a chance to take action on it.
Under DACA, people who arrived in the country illegally as children – called “Dreamers” – are protected from deportation and ultimately granted work permits.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers have called on Trump not to ditch the program – which affects about 800,000 people – with House Speaker Paul Ryan saying Congress should address DACA.
In his statement, Lankford agreed with Ryan that Congress should enter the fray over immigration.
“We must confront the nation’s out-of-date immigration policy and finally resolve the issues of strong border enforcement and merit immigration,” Lankford said. “Policy reform must come from the American people through Congress. The Legislative and Executive Branch should put aside passivity and partisanship and finally modernize our immigration laws.”
Trump, who touted hard-line immigration policies during his presidential campaign, is expected to make a formal announcement about DACA on Tuesday.

So what in the hell is your story, Lankford? Your job isn't to lobby for illegal aliens, your job is to represent American Citizens. So whose pocket are you in now? Or have you always been in that pocket and we're just finding out now?
And don't tell me it's about the kids, that's how Hitler took over Germany, you know. You don't give a hoot about these head-banded, tattooed, big mouth, arrogant, foreign-flag waving, all about them, above the law, protesting socialist radicals. And that's what the "good ones" are. Hell, they're shutting down the schools in Denver on Tuesday in "solidarity" (communist talk) with a Republican Congresscritter named Mike Coffman who introduced the eternally stupid BRIDGE ACT to give amnesty to illegal aliens.
Sooooo, who paid you to do this Lankford and how much was it?A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan
