Hunt on for robber who preys on Broward, Palm Beach County migrant workers

Authorities are asking for the public's help in catching an armed man who has robbed migrant workers in Broward and Palm Beach counties by showing them a badge and gun and threatening to call immigration if they didn't give him money.

Although the suspect never identified himself as a police officer, victims say he carried a badge, and had a gun, a police radio and handcuffs, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office today released a sketch of the man, who is suspected of taking thousands of dollars.

He is suspected in a recent armed robbery in Pompano Beach and in more than 20 other robberies targeting migrant workers in Palm Beach County, the Sheriff's Office said.

In the Pompano Beach incident, deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of NW 34 Street in Pompano Beach on April 11 in reference to a home invastion robbery, the Sheriff's Office said.

One of the victims said he was home with his roommates when a man armed with a gun showed up around 8 p.m., flashed a badge and threatened to call immigration officials if they didn't hand over all their cash, the Sheriff's Office said.

The men gave the suspect all their money and he left, the Sheriff's Office said.

The robber is described as around 30 years old, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and beige pants.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

Don't you just love the so-called 'politically correct descriptions of suspects'? It is so helpful to the public and public tips provided the suspect never changes clothing.

I thought illegal aliens are living in the shadows and never report a crime because they are afraid of being deported! Yeah, right!!

I also love the fact many become "white" when they don't want to say hispanic as well. I'm mean you either are or you aren't but just like everything else they jump sides when it's convenient so their "race" isn't tainted by the actual numbers of the crimes they do. Yet they don't hesitate to say a white man with blonde hair....

If both the attacker and victim are hispanic, they will spin the statistic as white attacker and hispanic victim.

This could be ANYONE! I hate it when they leave out information that could save someone else from becoming another victim.
