WHAT CAN A PRESIDENT DO ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?

Well , since we can't agree on a candidate , lets take a look at what a president can and can't do regarding our illegal immigration problem

the president cannot make any laws regarding our immigration system ,
He can approve or dis approve of plans put forth by the the senate and house members ,

He can however order the HS , ICE and justice dept to step up enforcement , he could put troops on the borders , one of his jobs is to protect the country from invasion so he would be justified in doing so

I don't know if he has the right to kick out or limit foreign consulates

He would not have the right to change birthright citizenship , only the courts or the congress could do that

This is a start , what else can the president do or not do legally against illegal immigration ?

The president's job is to actually HEAR what the people are saying and stop covering his ears.

This is a good point because
we have to be reminded that there is so
much a President can do. Just
take a look at GW and the amnesty bill.

It could go both ways but we need to have a
President who declares puclicly that he would veto
    any amnesty bill.

Actually Bush wanted his amnesty in the worst way

But he didn't have the power to make it happen

Now Bush did have the power to put 50k troops and not 5k troops
on the border with full arrest powers

    Yet he didn't do so

The "supreme decider" added to the current mess with his first state
of the union address in which he said "we need you to do jobs Americans
    won't do".
I'm old with many opinions few solutions.

The President actually has a lot of power to persuade people. He has the pulpit -- 24/7. The press covers every word, every move -- if we had a President who declared that illegal immigration was WRONG, that it is the abomination that it is ... .attitudes would change.

Instead we have one who reminds us they do the work Americans won't do ... essentially puts Americans down, insinuates that they are worthless, lazy, won't work, etc. He is part of the problem . ..not the solution.

Presidents set the tone, the attitude of the country -- that's ENORMOUS power!

Yet Bush didn't have the power to push through amnesty

This is about what they ACTUALLY have the power to do

no amnesty, and no letting wall street gamble with social security either. the only way the american public was led to believe invading- declaring war on iraq, was thru lies and deciet. and also our troops were already in afganistan. the men that "wagged the dog" have never faced consequence for the damage, and the blood of 1000's that stains their hands. these men still run the show, and have no remorse for the wrongs they have done. if these men set the pace, the next pres, along with "the patriot act", will harm the USA more than any terrorist can hope to. YIKES!!! on the high side, dont look good for hillery,as i dont think anyone else can out-screw the usa, god help us all if she slithers into the oval office. i sure miss the old days when i didnt care about how the country was being run, or by who. ignorance is bliss.

Well said, jjmm, the pace set forth by this pathetic goofball of a President has poisoned the American attitude, especially those in the corporate world. That change in attitude has filtered down from the top to the bottom and that's why we have those who are uninformed believing that we need the illegals here. These people don't know how to independently think for themselves. who knows, maybe they never will. This pure propaganda is from the OBL and the NWO.

And that was only because of people like us standing up on our hind
legs and screaming NO!! I think they got scared. Lets keep the
fear in them. Dont you know they were shocked?
