Plan needed to naturalize immigrants
November 19, 2007

By calling it amnesty, we give common sense a dirty name.

For the past 40 years or longer, successive federal administrations have failed to enforce immigration law. The result is that 10 million or 20 million people live in the U.S. illegally, some of them for decades.

The guilty party in this travesty is Uncle Sam and only he can fix it. But to suppose that those 20 million souls can be sent home on a bus is silly. They are here and here they will remain no matter how illegal it is or how much it disturbs some of our citizens.

What is needed is a plan to invite them out of hiding, identify them, weed out the criminal element and put them at the end of the list of people awaiting naturalization. Such a plan would obviate the need for a fence at our boundaries.

If the newspaper is interested in presenting such a plan, there are plenty available. They need only ask and I'll provide them with one.
