08-16-2012, 06:33 PM #11Would saying anything yesterday have made a difference?
Your theory that he is remaining silent because of political calculations to win the election vs the possibility he supports the same America transforming amnesties for illegals Obama does is sheer positive thinking.
Romney should speak out against what Obama is doing and the more people are willing to support him no matter what he says or does the less incentive he has do to the right thing.
You should seriously consider changing directions MW to join those that would put pressure on Romney to do the right thing instead of siding those that will excuse everything he does because you don't want to face the very real possibility that your vote for President wont mean much or a thing like it would not have mattered in the last three Presidential elections in the US.
Globalist pro amnesty candidates would have won no matter which way you voted in 2000, 2004, and 2008 but if it makes you feel better to think you have escaped go ahead. While you are feeling better about things, you and others like you are less likely to address the real problem here in a way that could lead to possible improvements.

You're way off base here, googler!!! I didn't say anything about antagonizing illegals. Please read what I wrote again. Twisting my words to fit your personal needs is wrong on so many levels. Here's what I said: "Why antagonize Hispanics and illegal alien supporters when there is nothing to be gained?"

I'll stand right next to you with the pressure ......... once Romney is elected. There is just to much at stake right now for me to make an attempt at convincing others that Obama or some unknown third party candidate is the way to go. The way I see it (right or wrong), there are only two choices in November. I'm sorry but Romney is the only clear choice I see at this point. At least with Romney I feel we have an opportunity to turn things around over the next 4-8 years. Romney's position on a lot of the illegal immigrant issues has been very clear, maybe not all, but a lot of them. I'm sorry, I just don't see making a big deal out of the fact that he wasn't running around stomping his feet yesterday in regards to Obama's dreamer amnesty. He has already stated that he doesn't agree with it. While I understand that's not enough for some, at least I take a little satisfaction in knowing he does not support Obama's actions.
Oh, and I don't think it was fair to say I excuse everything he does because that just isn't true. There are position of his that I disapprove of, especially on legal immigration. For those that don't support Romney, that's fine (their choice), however, I don't think it's right to think Romney supporters care any less about the direction our country is headed than those that don't support him.
For the record, I do not think Mitt Romney is the perfect candidate but I do think he beats the heck out of the alternative!"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

If you want Romney to win, his chances are going to be near impossible with a few more million illegal alien voters beholden to Obama rushing for the polls to repay their master for his overthrow of the Republic to accommodate their invasion.
Romney was barely staying competitive in this race before Obama's amnesty decree. How will his math look now with a few million felonious voters lining up for Dictator Obama?

For 22 years come fall I've fought illegal immiration. For years I felt that I was the only fighter. Along came the anti illegal pacs, I've tried being with them, I 've went without them, I've returned to pacs. I've been swayed by the "(s)he's better than what we have," and I've been swayed by the "are you a one issue voter?" arguments At age 71 now I'll be swayed by no one's comment, only my own conscience. I may not have all that many votes left to cast, that is up to another power. This election I will not vote for either major party, regardless of party, regardless with or without one or more pacs power, little has changed unless I credit the worst, then things have changed. For the WORSE!! I'm still watching Romney for a powerful statement, If he canot win me over, then I will not feel guilty that that makes me believe, but he surely seems reluctant to say it, if he believes it in any way..
If Romney cannot win me over and I vote for neither major candidate, then I will not have to apologize for making it worse. I will sleep comfortably with my conscience. I see many doing what has always been done, vote for ths best compromise. Well, if one keeps doing as they have always done and expects a different result, then one cannnot claim to have been fooled, but only a fool. This time I choose to do it differently, because nothing less has made any difference. And like others here, if we don't cause it to change this election then I do not believe that elections will ever change it.

MW, I think you hit the nail on the head. A smart person picks his battles. I believe that Romney is doing just that. A smart general doesn't sacrifice the war for one battle. He bides his time and assures that the battle is fought on the field of his choosing, not the enemy's.

I don't know what else to say to you, googler. Maybe you're not comprehending what a couple of us are attempting to explain. Yes, I do believe some things will get done under Romney, and more importantly, some things won't get done. Things like the Dream Act and amnesty won't happen, Romney has been adament about that. Romney opposes all “magnets” that entice illegal immigrants to come to our country ..... he has said so repeatedly. As governor, he vetoed in-state tuition benefits for illegal immigrants, opposed driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants, and attempted to give state law enforcement officers the authority to apprehend illegals. He done these things in a very liberal state, so why would you think he would be afraid to act on illegal immigrant issues as President? Taking up a specific argument precisely when a special interest groups wants you to during a campaign for election is not the same as acting on an issue while sitting in the White House.
IMHO, Texasborn is absolutely right, you must pick your battles during an election campaign and you must decide how and when to wage them. A miscalculation in that area could be very damaging. I commend your enthusiasm, googler (oh to be young again), however, you must understand that not everything is always going to be black and white. If I might make a suggestion where Romney is concerned .......... weigh the good with the bad (Romney's positions) and then consider the alternative. If you'll do that, perhaps you'll better understand why many of us feel we have no choice but to support Romney."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**
