Ron Paul's vote in 2005 against border fencing

Copied below is information from the NumbersUSA website that can be found on a webpage detailing Ron Paul's immigration voting record and is available by using the following link: http://profiles.numbersusa.com/improfil ... &VIPID=787 .

Voted on House floor against amendment to increase security with border fence in 2005
Rep. Paul voted against the Hunter Amendment to H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. The Hunter Amendment would shore up security by building fences and other physical infrastructure to keep out illegal aliens. Specifically, it mandates the construction of specific security fencing, including lights and cameras, along the Southwest border for the purposes of gaining operational control of the border. As well, it includes a requirement for the Secretary of Homeland Security to conduct a study on the use of physical barriers along the Northern border. The Hunter Amendment passed by a vote of 260-159.

I'm wondering what Ron's reasoning was. He does not support amnesty, so why did he vote that way? Maybe he thought we needed something else other than the fence....more guns??? LOL Seriously, does anyone have any info on that?

I worry about his "libertarian" associations - some of those are open borders types. I would listen to his explanation - he is more principled than most, but I would trust someone like Tancredo more on this issue.

He doesn't support the present Senate amnesty legislation.

Howver, on numerous occasions in the past, he has supported the infamous Section 245(i) amnesties. Please check out his immigration voting record at the following link: http://profiles.numbersusa.com/improfil ... &VIPID=787 .

There is not a single good explanation that Ron Paul can give for voting against that amendment.

In the last debate Ron said he opposes the amnesty bill. However, he said if we had a truly free market economy, we would realise "we need them," and they would not be scape-goated

I still support him far above the likes of Giuliani and McCain, but Tancredo and Hunter are leaps and bounds ahead of him IMO.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

Might be because he believes the Federal government should get their incompetent noses out of everyone's business. He might have thought the states should enforce and tell the Fed's to kiss our grits.
