    S. Fla. Schools Prepare For Influx Of Haitians

    MIAMI (CBS4) ―

South Florida school officials are working on plans in case there's an influx of new students from Haiti. Wednesday, officials from Miami-Dade County Public Schools were visiting a former hospital site in Homestead that may be used as a residential education center for Haitian children displaced by the earthquake.

"The time is now for us to plan for the possibility, of hundreds to thousands of children arriving in South Florida," said Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

Staff from the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management accompanied school officials for a tour of the building that used to be known as Homestead Hospital, located at 160 NW 13th Street. Carvalho is offering it as a sort of a refugee camp for upwards of 600 people—complete with rooms, bathroom, a cafeteria and space to teach children.

Both the Miami-Dade and Broward school districts are preparing classroom space and education programs for new students. The building was originally bought in 2007, meant to house the campus of a proposed medical campus for Miami-Dade Schools. However, the down economy put the brakes on the project, and the building has been empty.

Perhaps the biggest challenge will be finding funding in a time when the school board faces a budget crisis. "I've encouraged federal entities to provide us with the assistance," said Carvalho.

The school district hopes the federal government sees the imperative need for emergency funds and gives it the money it needs to operate the facility if the need should arise.

"We're going to make sure they have an educational assessment for them so that while they're here they can maximize their education and really equally as important we need to show them that we love them," said Broward School Superintendent Jim Notter.

Notter says he also plans to seek federal money to help pay for a surge in student population.

First question: If this was Homestead Hospital, why did it close? Treating too many illegals that could not pay, perhaps?
Second question: who is going to pay for the refugees getting here (the American taxpayer, of course.) And we just have to borrow more money from China and Saudi Arabia. Nice that we will be paying interest until the year 3050.

Are other nations taking these refugees for care, in large numbers?

    Psalm 91
    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
