    Stopping automatic citizenship

How can we stop the automatic citizenship of babies born just within our borders?

Is there something that has to be done in Congress or can the American people put it on the ballot?

If the parents are illegal, the baby should be illegal too. I don't see how these people can have any sense of pride knowing that they aren't wanted here, because they are criminals.

    Welcome Otma!
Senator Inhofe is introducing a bill which one of the key items is the repeal of automatic citizenship called S1269.
Here's the link. This bill has some nice proposals.

i think the 'anchor' baby should not be allowed, it is deceitful, so dishonest and immoral of that illegal alien woman to do. how is that child going to feel when they realize one day, that the only reason they were born is so their so-called mother could hopefully stay in the U.S. and not be deported. that is disgusting!! no different than an American woman having a child out of wedlock. Not to mention the fact that a portion of our paycheck has to support them. Such a shame.

It is a discusting practice. It's all part of the scam. If we would stop this, it would deter illegals from coming here. Everytime I am in the check out line I see an "immigrant/ingrate" using food stamps. Last week-end, I saw a family get about a hundred dollars worth. What really ticked me off was the father paying for a case of beer with cash that he pulled from what seemed like a big wad of cash.

It is rather amazing to think a person could be living in Mexico and walk across the border and deliver a U.S. citizen isn't it, something wrong with this picture!

Welcome to Alipac, Otma and Lone. I think most of us would agree that we need to end this anchor baby problem. I've read about pregnant illegals, so big with the pregnancy they could hardly move, yet they jump the fence or whatever, right before giving birth...and we pay for it... in more ways than one!

Either Congress or the President could end the practice, it would not take a Constitutional amendment. But since neither Congress nor the President will do this anytime soon, I suggest we lobby State Legislatures to pass a resolution asking the Federal Government to end this policy, since it is bankrupting the States. If 30 States did this, I think the Feds would have to act because otherwise those 30 states could call a Constitutional Convention and end the practice themselves!

To my knowledge, we are the only country that allows this practice. Usually, at least one parent has to be a citizen of the country. If an American goes to Mexico and has a baby, they don't recognize the baby as being a Mexican citizen. Is the U.S. the dumbest country, or what?

In the first place, that law was passed to guarantee that offspring of 'freed slaves' would be given citizenship. It was never intended to guarantee citizenship to offspring of illegal aliens, many of whom are pregnant when they arrive. The law should have been repealed years ago, when there was clearly no longer a need for it.

If our government would enforce the law as it was written, none of these 'anchor babies' would be entitled to anything, and the epidemic would stop. Correct me if I am wrong, but none of these illegals were former U.S. slaves. As usual, our laws simply are not being enforced.
