Adrian Wyllie Sues to Enter Debate

The latest Optimus poll shows Florida’s Libertarian candidate for Governor, Adrian Wyllie weighing in at 14 percent. Wyllie is facing off against one incumbent governor, and another former governor. Both Rick Scott and Charlie Crist are widely regarded as one of the least-liked gubernatorial candidate duos in US history.

But when they take center stage for the first televised debate next week, Wyllie might not get to join them. At the eleventh hour, the Florida Press Association notified Wyllie that he would not be allowed to debate with his opponents. They’re citing a law that says a candidate must show at least 15 percent support in the polls, plus the error margin. Depending on which polls you look at, Wyllie does qualify. But they’re drawing from one of the polls that show his lowest numbers. Even still, that amount of support would STILL have earned him a spot in a Governor’s debate in recent years. Wyllie says this new rule is arbitrary, and it’s exclusively aimed at keeping him out of the race, and off of the TVs of Florida voters.

Now, after raising campaign contributions of over 100 thousand dollars, and attracting a growing number of voters every day, Wyllie is promising to fight this new ruling with whatever measure he can. He says his supporters and ALL Florida voters DESERVE the right to hear from all of the top candidates on the ballot.

Wyllie didn’t waste any time either. He’s already started to act, filing a lawsuit against the Florida Press Association, Leadership Florida and Broward College. In another debate, early Friday morning, Wyllie and his supporters led a rally on the steps outside of the Telemundo TV studio, just before the pre-taped debate.

If the polls are accurate, and Wyllie is garnering around 14 percent of the Florida vote, he only needs about another 20 percent to win the bid for Governor. That’s a gap many candidates have closed in years past, but only after they had a chance to go toe-to-toe with their opponents on live TV.
