My girlfriend just showed me a form that the parents have the option of filling out, here's the two options, she's supposed to select one (in the correct order) :
    1. Latino/Hispanic
    2. Other (lists all other races/ethnicity)

They this is to get a correct count of the 'different' cultures in the school system here. Needless to say she's going in tomorrow to raise some hell.

    look at the annual budget

It differs in each state but here in N.J. each school district produces an annual budget statement which gives that information. It costs anywhere from $15,000 in really low cost districts to $23,000 in some urban districts. Its much cheaper in other states. Just look at the budget and divide by the number of students.

Just be careful. My daughter's school is like that, except there is a separate form for "Migrant Workers." Last year, I told the office that I was doing some research, and I would like to know if there is any way I could get information on the amount of "migrants" in the school. Mrs. Rodriguez said they have no way of knowing. Ever since then, I get looks from the office staff when I come in, and I'm afraid that they are going to treat my child like crap because of what I did.

Shouldn't this be public info? Isn't this under the Freedom of Information Act?
Don't think about all the things you fear, just be glad you're here.

Here in NY and NYC such statistics are forbidden from being collected and/or reported. The best I could do is make an educated guess with very little actual info.

I've been hearing for quite awhile students are buying some of their own supplies for school...But this is not so where my daughter is a teacher at an elementary school in Anaheim Ca. There are a lot of illegals that attend the school where she teaches....I asked her, do your student buy their own supplies?...My daughter said "are you kidding," they don't even ask the students to buy anything because their parents won't buy it anyway! So my daughter buys the supplies for the students out of her own money.
