Thread: School Credit for Protesting the Laws of this Country?

As suggested by Michelle, Let us sent this Superintendent a message that we do not support rewarding our children for protesting our laws, especially our immigration laws. I have already sent mine!!

Monday is national illegal alien day. (List of events here.) Some schools are suspending students who walk out, but not here in the People's Republic of Montgomery County, Md. They're going to earn school credit for skipping school and protesting enforcement of our immigration laws (via WaPo):

The Montgomery County schools' decision to grant students community service credit for attending Monday's immigration rights protest is raising concern among some parents as well as activists who say officials should focus on education, not political advocacy.
Montgomery is the only Washington area school system offering students credit for taking part in the event, to be held on the Mall -- a decision Superintendent Jerry D. Weast said is consistent with how the system has operated.

"This is nothing new,'' schools spokesman Brian K. Edwards said about the decision. "Advocacy is allowed."

But in the superheated atmosphere surrounding the immigration debate, the decision is drawing sharp criticism from many quarters. Yesterday, school system offices were flooded with angry phone calls as word of its action circulated among conservative radio hosts.

In a memo sent to Board of Education members, Weast said that "callers were abusive to school system staff, using derogatory ethnic comments in expressing their views." He added, "This is not the first time the national debate on immigration policy has engendered harsh commentary for the school system and staff as a target for political purposes."

Edwards said students will receive service learning hours for participating in the rally as long as they do so under the supervision of a community group that has been approved by the school system.

Student participation in the event is being organized by CASA of Maryland Inc., a Silver Spring-based group that works with the Latino community. It is CASA's role -- as organizer -- that has some questioning whether the school system is allowing an outside group to push its political agenda on students. "I do understand that CASA offers some worthy services to immigrants and that's noble, but it's a stretch to allow students to protest for a particular side of an issue,'' said parent Melissa Andersen. "I'm taken aback by it. I think it's poor judgment."


CASA of Maryland is a taxpayer-funded, open-borders organization whose leader made headlines in February when he threatened the children of pro-immigration enforcement advocates:

An article published yesterday by the Sean Sands of Maryland Community Newspapers Online quoted Casa de Maryland’s Executive Director Gustavo Torres saying “We are going to picket their houses, and the schools of their kids and go to their work. If they are going to do this to us, we are going to respond in the same way, to let people know their neighbors are extremists, that they are anti-immigrant. They are going to hear from us.”
Will the Montgomery schools give credit to schoolkids who participate in counter-rallies held by the Minutemen or other pro-immigration enforcement advocates?

Thank you for posting this. This illustrates just how screwed up our country and some public schools have become.

There are A LOT of people running around our country who our founding fathers would have put in jail.

The ultimate hypocracy,

Students bitching about immigration laws that they probably have no clue about whatsoever yet NOT BITCHING ABOUT the fact that the illegals ARE EATING UP MONEY AND RESOURCES THAT COULD BE USED TO GIVE THEM A BETTER EDUCATION IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.

Why? BIASED MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA (CURRENT EVENTS) AND SOCIAL STUDIES BULLSH*T EDUCATION. Politicaly correctness (lies) and propaganda, that is what is taught in our pubic school system.

Why arent these so called "know it alls" of a 13-14th ranked in the industrialized world education asking WHY CANT MOMMY AND DADDY AFFORD ME BETTER MEDICAL CARE? WHY CANT THEY AFFORD TO PUT ME IN COLLEGE? WHY ARENT THE SALARIES AND THE QUALITY OF THE SCHOOL TEACHERS BETTER THEN THEY ARE? WHY DOES OUR EDUCATION LEVEL SUCK COMPARED TO ANY OTHER MAJOR INDUSTRIALIZED NATION IN THE WORLD AND IN TURN WE CANNOT COMPETE WITH THOSE NATIONS ON THE GLOBAL JOB MARKET???

A teacher was recently FIRED for stating that "Hispanics were undermining the education of the students and cirriculam of the schools".. she was dead right but since she was politicaly incorrect.. she lost her job. Teachers are NEVER ALLOWED to be politicaly incorrect, which basicly means they have to shut up or lose their jobs. This is true in many government operated institutions. This is another way for the "minorities" (a term heavily used by illegals as a way to sue our system when anybody argues with them) to keep their hidden agendas and motives from being questioned.

Our education system is basicly teaching a bunch of politicaly correct world affairs brainwashed kids that believe that our biased mainstream media sources would not possibly lie to them. Its no wonder the kids from other countries make our kids look like sick jokes in terms of intelligence and skills unless we pay for their education ourselves through reputable private schools. We have kids in our schools that graduate that dont even know the geography of our own country or with math skills that require a calculator to count money!!!

If these students wish to protest they should be doing it over the weekend or before/after school. Any other time they should receive the normal disciplinary action for being truant.

If even after this the students still refuse to abide by the rules set forth by the school then the local police department should detain these students and have their parents pick them up. At the time of pickup ICE needs to be waiting there and checking the legal status of the student and parent before the students are released.

I live in Montgomery County MD, and everything around here is getting worse day by day. The schools are overcrowded with (GUESS) hispanics. They make up almost half of the schools population. There are so many of them that new schools are being built constantly, and older schools have 'trailers' to hold classes.

Revoke public funding and their charter to operate.

Any public school that promotes ignorance of our laws and encourages the breaking of our laws, should no longer be permitted to operate.
