Schumer--Congressional Record is Open for 7 Days
Did anyone watch the webcast of the Senate Subcommittee dealing with Comprehensive Immigration Reform, today? I know a lot of you might have turned it off prematurely because of the biased testimony. Kris Kobach did the best job he could--despite being outmanned by those who believe illegal immigration is an economic benefit (like Alan Greenspan).
But at the end Senator Schumer announced that "The Congressional Record is open for seven days." Great News
Now the next question is: How does one submit something to the Record? Has anyone here ever done this? Do you need to do it through your US Senator? Sounds like a great possibility.
As to the economic arguments which comprised a lot of the "expert" testimony----we have done away with a lot of occupations in this country that were formerly considered a valuable contribution. Why? The world moved on. We no longer needed mule team drivers or honeymen to clean the outhouses or chimneysweeps, etc, because technological change eliminated those roles. And it should eliminate many of the roles that illegal aliens typically fulfill.
The other BIG argument that they missed was the gradually increasing chaotic conditions due to our "family reunification policy." I would like to see testimony of how elderly foreign citizens are draining our social security system. Not to mention the hordes of third worlders who can potentially come here through family reunification. They touched upon it a little bit in the dialogue between skilled immigration and family reunification.
So there is a lot that we could address. How do we do it? It's open for seven days."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

I guess a call tomorrow to either my senator or Chuck Schumer's office is in play for my day. I have not been able to google anything, and on govtrack.com found that it means the hearing has not been gaveled shut so members can still vote. But whether that means public input or additional witnesses will be heard, I have no clue.

04-30-2009, 11:01 PM #6I couldn't listen either, when I clicked to hear it it made my computer go wacky. Maybe they did something weird so we couldn't listen because I have heard nothing about this on the news shows

I'm listening; Feinstein said this is the AgJobs Bill! She's crying about farmers moving to Mexico. I'm sorry, NAFTA allowed that. I have NO sympathy for farmers or anyone who built their businesses on illegal labor!

You should be able to watch the whole thing at that link. That's how I got it. It is about 2.5 hours long, but there are two breaks you can skip: one when they went off to vote on something and another short recess later.
I would say that Kobach was the main pro-enforcement voice but there were a few others who maintained a line against illegal immigration and Schumer stated that he realized the American people were against illegal immigration. Eliseo Medina, an immigrant shill (since he himself was an illegal alien) was trying to make a case that legalizing the IA population would benefit EVERYBODy!!
whooppeee! That and Greenspan's comments that these people actually could benefit the economy. (I guess he just forgot to comment on how the accelerated construction industry of the last ten years.....employing a preponderance of illegals.....had led to the present crisis, silly me) Well, there was enough to give silly man Schumer some hopes he would be the new hero for US illegals.
That's why submitting intelligent testimony would be really key, and they said that would be allowed for the next seven days. Shouldn't we know how to find authoritative government or academic reports and recommend them for inclusion in the Record? I saw one from the Federal Trade Commission on ID theft, for example. Try to find absolutely top notch sources---Schumer is trying to portray nativists as disgruntled, misinformed rednecks."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
