I just wanted to make sure what we are talking about. I watched C-Span and have read about his supposed rep with KKK. But I also know something else he is in fact in DC and susceptible as all the others up there. I am willing to give him the room but with quotes such as these I can't support him unless he says specifically where he stands in defiance of these quotes. I don't care who he is. An answer such as "His position hasn't changed" is vague. I don't equate his adamant opposition to the wide open K/M bill as necessarily translating to him being against amnesty for those already here. I guess I need more then you because in this climate I don't trust any of them and in particular those who will not say specifically what they mean. Trust is earned and right now while I support the certain portion of Republicans and few Democrats who side with us in this issue I am suspicious of all of them as a whole. Those on our side I trust till proven otherwise and right now these Sessions quotes are an "otherwise" for me.

no shift in position. Sen. Sessions still stands by the points he made last yeart and early this year re: the Kennedy/McCain immigration reform bill.

Good news is that things seem to be breaking our way on the issue up here but its still an uphill fight.
Thanks PhredE! That is wonderful news!

I see your point, AlturaCt. I look at things a little diffrently though. In my view, we have a lot of friends in the U.S. Congress, unfortunately not enough, but a lot. I have a "friends" classification system I use that helps me put things in perspective. My system is made up of great friends, good friends, and friends - all others are enemies. Just because someone says something I don't agree with or like, doesn't automatically remove them from my friends list. Their status may drop from great friend to good friend or good friend to friend, but I don't automatically lower them to the enemies list unless I'm sure that they have become an enemy to the cause. I honestly believe considering Sessions an enemy at this point is premature and harmful to our cause. Now, that doesn't mean we shouldn't pay close attention to him and monitor his position, but it does mean we shouldn't dismiss him as a friend based on one quote, not unless that quote is an official declaration on a position switch. Heck, how do we know he didn't feel the same way when he was on the senate floor fighting like the dickens to stop S.2611?

All I'm saying is don't be so eager to dismiss our friends unless absolutely deserved because we're going to need them. Have you considered calling his office to share your concerns regarding his comment? Perhaps a phone call would go along way in reducing the apprehension you're feeling over his comment.

A limited guest worker program that does not involve a path to legalization is not amnesty, not if the program doesn't involve the criminal aliens currently residing in the United States. Don't get me wrong, I don't support any sort of guest worker program, but than again, I'm not an elected politician that has to answer to those who voted for me. Personally, because of his past actions and voting record, I'm giving Sen. Sessions the benefit of doubt (for now). I think he deserves that much, don't you?

Grant you, Sessions has voted in favor of guest worker programs in the past (he's been consistent), but that alone doesn't mean he supports amnesty for criminal aliens, college tuition for illegals, driver's licenses, unsecured borders, etc. He can certainly help us a lot more than he can hurt us. In the worse case scenario, he's just one vote for a guest worker program, but a whole lot of votes against immigrant favorable programs than fall under the immigration reform spectrum.

One more thing to keep in mind regarding Sessions - he's up for re-election in '08. Given that he has been such a strong voice in the Senate against an amnesty, and I imagine this is what his constituents want, I'd be surprised if his position will change substantially.

    Thank you Phred!
When I posted those articles yesterday, I felt sick. My husband and I really respect the Senator. I immediately sent his office an email- yesterday- and I hope he does respond.
You gave me a sense of relife. WHEW!
