Note this story posted today in the National Review Online about Sen. Sessions scheduled fundraiser with GWB this week. Some of us called Sen. Sessions's office last week to politely, respectfully express our concern and desire that the Senator be present to oppose S.1348 (as you know, Sen. Sessions has been a true hero in this fight against amnesty):

Immigration Sessions [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

The timing for a President Bush trip to Alabama probably couldn't be worse. He's doing a fundraiser (planned...not in the last month!) for Jeff Sessions on Thursday. I imagine that puts the great senator in an awkward position this week.

It's, of course, liable to make news — just the presence of the the president in Sessions Country is fascinating and likely to mean some protests in some form from the Right — being organized, I gather, by the League of Christian Voters there. That's good inasmuch as it means more focus on this legislation and its details.

The bad news (besides the awkward factor) is Senator Sessions will have to be missing some of the Senate debate on amendments to appear with the amnesty legislation's leading proponent.
