Curious, what name will they be collecting from? Their own or their stolen name?

Or a ficticous name with a valid SS? What happens to the real owner of the SS? Do they have to fight to prove they are the real owner of the SS?

Another question: If the SS and name is stolen, then someone owns that stolen SS. Is the money deposited in the real persons's account from the thief....is that money belonging to the real owner of the SS? Or the thief of the SS?

Scenario: John Smith is a real person with a real valid SS. He works over the years and accumulates his SS. Meantime, someone else also uses his SS, unbeknowst to him. In the end John Smith goes to collect his SS. Can the thief of his name and SS collect from the same account? Worse, can the thief of his name and SS claim the real John Smith's earnings as well as their own illegal earnnings? How does that work?

So then if you rob banks for a living and declare some of the loot as income and pay into social security on part of it you qualify for benefits?
