    Shut down Mexican border

    MONDAY AUGUST 3, 2009

    Shut down Mexican border

    Editor:

I'm concerned with the inaction by the Senate and the House concerning health care, however, I'm more concerned with the inaction concerning illegal immigration. It seems to me that if we get the illegal immigrants out, that it would alleviate a whole lot of problems. It would unclog our courts, alleviate overcrowding in our jails, and since uninsured illegal aliens are costing the American taxpayer $17 billion a year, just by breaking into our country to give birth, then claiming that because their children were born in America that they are American citizens, stopping them from violating our borders in the first place would be the intelligent solution. It would also free up those billions of dollars so that we could provide better health care for our own people.

I grow weary of the platitudes, excuses, and (what seems like childish infighting), stalling the process. We are (by your own admission) the only country that does not have an official language. English has been our language for over 230 years. Why is it so hard to get even this simple piece of legislation passed? Having to put everything into Spanish is costing the American taxpayer billions. More wasted funds that could be better spent elsewhere.

Please try to remember who you are supposed to be representing. We need relief from the unnecessary mollycoddling of people who didn't even show us the courtesy of entering our country legally, and their disrespectful rhetoric is not helping to endear them to us. "We're taking back America one Latino at a time." "English we don't need to learn no stinking English let them learn Espanol." We are sick of this.

Please don't make us, our children, or our children's children have to reconquer our own country. By our own laws if you break into our country you are, "persona non grata." This means that you are not entitled to legal representation, a jury trial, a hearing, or equal protection under our laws. If you have violated our borders what ever happens to you while you are here illegally happens.

Please shut down the Mexican border, order the illegal aliens out and repeal the failed policies of NAFTA now. And please, please, please enact legislation to make English the official language of the United States for once and for all.

Why is it so hard to get even this simple piece of legislation passed?
"lobbying, practice and profession of influencing governmental decisions, carried out by agents who present the concerns of special interests to legislators and administrators. The term originated in the United States of the 1830s, when representatives of interest groups tended to congregate in the lobbies of Congress and state legislatures. It is now used in a broader sense to include attempts to influence any governmental actions.
In the United States lobbying has become an accepted and ubiquitous part of the political system; while federal and state legislators are technically representatives of geographical areas, they spend much of their time with lobbyists, and can be said at times to be responding to interest groups rather than to their constituents, to the degree that legislation drafted by lobbyists is sometimes introduced. Organizations such as corporations, financial institutions, labor unions, professional associations, educational groups, medical interests, farm alliances, and various public interest and social issue groups like Common Cause, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, the National Rifle Association, and the National Coalition for the Homeless maintain permanent lobbies in Washington and in state capitals to protect and further their interests. Lobbyists often deal directly with governmental decisionmakers, supplying technical information, making political threats or promises, and supplying friendship, entertainment, and other favors. Their indirect methods include the use of the mass media and mailing and telephone campaigns (some purporting to come from the "grass roots") and the organization of campaign funding vehicles known as political action committees political action committee (PAC), U.S. organization formed by a corporation, labor union, or association to raise money for political activity. Funds can be gathered by voluntary contributions from members, employees, or shareholders.
..... Click the link for more information. (PACs).

The potential for corruption, especially bribery of officials, has given lobbying an unsavory connotation and has led to many attempts to regulate it, first at the state and later at the national level. The basic federal law has been the Regulation of Lobbying Act of 1946, which requires registration of and regular financial reports from all individuals and agents seeking to influence legislation. In 1995, Congress passed a new bill intended to strengthen registration and disclosure requirements and to include within the definition of "lobbyist" some, e.g., lawyers, who had not previously been so designated."

Now, as half latina I will come out and say that what is going on currently in the white house is a damn shame. I do speak fluent latin American spanish, however I do not think it should be distributed so much as it is through the states. America is made up of colorful people from all corners of the world, and this catering and bending over backwards for Mexicans is very unfair and not right. England has started to see the negative impact that so many immigrants bring, and have been deporting people who are technically not british citizens. I think that we could deport many of the illegals but the government chooses not to because there is some reason, they have some plan to keep them here. Why else would a government let them get away with all this crap? I have met many illegal mexicans who are good people. So I do not hate mexicans, but I dislike the mindset that they have, and I dislike how the government is catoring to it.

    Welcome, frebrd!
I think we pay so much attention to Mexico's border, as the largest group of illegals are from Latin America. Mexico is have its war with drug cartels and gangs, many who have come here illegally and continue fighting each other. And the Latinos stand out because all of a sudden almost every product has an English name and a Spanish name. We have bilingual education in Spanish. Latinos march in our streets carrying foreign flags while screaming that we should just hand the country over to them. We are already handing our money over to them by social services, healthcare and hiring them so they can send remittances home.
You don't see any other ethnic group doing what they are doing, or at least not so in-your-face.

Welcome to Alipac frebrd (Skynard reference?)

I went to Vegas about 2 years ago and I noticed more hispanics than anything. Has there been a surge in Phillipino and Russians since the 2 years I have been there? Are these people legal?

Welcome Frebrd! We passed thru Vegas back in July and I was surprised at all the freeway signs up that were in spanish. Now you have an asian invasion there also. Thats really sad.

I hate to say it, but LV just doesn't hold the same allure for me as it did years ago. The freeway is still a dangerous mess thru there and to put it bluntly, with the exception of the strip, that is one of the most ugliest towns I've ever been in and I could go the rest of my life without visiting there again. I hope you have better luck soon finding a job...
