But the Americas Majority Foundation data are pretty persuasive. States with the highest percentage of immigrants or the largest recent influx of immigrants – 19 High Immigrant Jurisdictions, or HIJs, in all – are wealthier, have better employment numbers and most have better crime figures than those with fewer immigrants. In Arizona, for example, personal income is higher, as is the gross state product, the measure of all economic activity in the state. Unemployment is lower, as is household poverty. And crime is lower than both the national average and the average among states with fewer immigrants.
Whoa, does he really believe this?? By his reasoning, California should be "THE wealthiest, have better employment numbers and better crime figures"? Same for NJ. Did someone forget to tell California or NJ?

Chavez is confusing immigrants with illegal immigrants. I do not doubt that areas that have an influx of LEGAL immigrants do well. After all, legal immigrants undergo a stringent evaluation process prior to being allowed to come to the US. I think they also need a sponsor. Anyone who cites Tamar Jacoby has zero credibility as far as I am concerned.

As soon as I seen the so called writers name, I knew the article was a propaganda piece written in favor of illegal aliens.

    (1) In the wake of the Law, Chavez said "nothing" happened. This is false — Chavez took the time to write a politically biased article.

    (2) How much time has passed since the Law took effect? A day? A week? I mean, what if, hypothetically, he wrote the article the day after the Law took effect? Then that would be ~dozen calls per day, or about 5000 per year.

The article is dated 4 January, 2008. When did the Law kick in?

I wonder what she expected to happen? At two minutes after midnight on the first the sky was going to light up with rockets?
Things like this take time, investgations and evidence gathering will take place first and after some companies get in trouble others will hear about it and take steps to stay clear of the law. It will be done very quietly on the part of Law Enforcement. The only noise you will hear will be from those breaking the law.

Way back in 2001, Bush nominated Chavez for LABOR SECRETARY!!! She had an IE living and working in her home, but instead of admitting that the IE was an employee...Chavez LIED and tried to cover it up. (See below) This should have been a red flag as to Bush's ties to Mexico...

Cabinet Nominee Ousted for Harboring Illegal Alien

Linda Chavez, syndicated columnist and former Chair of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission under President Reagan, withdrew her nomination for Secretary of Labor in the Bush administration after a media firestorm erupted over her harboring an illegal alien during the early 1990s.

Chavez’s saga was similar to that of Clinton nominee for attorney general in 1993, Zoë Baird. Baird had employed an illegal alien nanny and housekeeper without paying taxes. Chavez claimed that her situation was different, in that she was sheltering a battered woman who had fled her abusive husband in Guatemala.
