    Spanish ballot and instructions

I just came back from voting and must admit (naively I'm sure) I was shocked to see that both instructions and ballots were in English and Spanish. If there ever is an instance where English should be required it is during the voting process. How long have voting instructions and ballots been bilingual?

Yep, our government goes to great lengths to make sure spanish speaking voters are catered to at the polls. In fact, the U.S. Department of Justice recently sued the City of Philadelphia claiming it was not doing enough to accommodate spanish speaking voters and, to correct that, they wanted to place Federal observers at polling places where large numbers of hispanics are registered to vote.

One would think the local pro-Hispanic/Latino groups, as well as dem candidates would be absolutely thrilled, right? Well they're not, and the city is vigorously fighting the lawsuit with their FULL support. The reason? They don't want Federal officals "observing".
