Nope, apparently we need skills. Let the employers start training people.
The American workers have already been trained. They just need to be allowed to get their jobs back from the untrained workers who took them because employers wanted their lower salaries.

After seeing the devastation that hit the Detroit area in the aftermath of the dot.com bust, I have a pretty good idea of what an 'implosion' will look like.

This was never a 'world economy' but a cleverly executed scam. I remember reading newspaper articles in the Detroit area that said that it was good for the economy for Americans to lose their jobs, and not to worry because we would get our jobs back around the year 2012 (which incidentally is the date for the end of the world on the Mayan calendar).

Its been like the Dutch tulip speculation bubble played with the jobs of American citizens.

To Hell with the damn "global economy"!

We already have the workforce, trained better than any foreigner. My husband lost his job when he got cancer to two German engineers. Many of my friends are permanently out of work - in IT and telecom industries - thanks to H1B visas. Some have masters. Once an employee gets to mid 50's, he is put out and younger, cheaper foreign workers take their place. Try to find a job when you are 58, not happening folks.

Also, if someone in our family loses their home, we are no longer capable of helping anyone. My husband, a mechanical engineer, made $17,000 last year. That was working full time. He used to make $70,000. It is fine to say that you would take care of your own, but when you are so personally affected by the job situation, it is not possible to do anything but try to stay afloat yourself.

I called the only representative on that committee from GA, even though I am not in his district. I explained to him personally what the H1B visa program has done to my family, and also on the tax collections for our State, which is in big trouble right now. I also worked with foreign nurses - you cannot understand them, they do not know the nomenclature for most procedures, treatments and physician orders. For example, I heard one on the phone saying: "I don't know who Dr. ABG is". The phone call was from a doctor ordering ABG's on his patient (arterial blood gases for respiratory function measuring). We need to pay our nurses more and we will get competent care. There isn't a shortage of nurses - only a shortage of people willing to work like slaves for not enough money. Our lives, as well as our loved ones, depend on the ability and skill of the nurse who is looking after them. Trust me, the doctor will not be there when their condition takes a sudden bad turn.

I sure hope that people do call. I explained that our representative can count on being a one term representative if he votes for this during this time of crisis.
