Why do we in the U.S. automatically let illegal aliens' children get U.S. nationality (if born in the USA) and then have access to and put a huge drain on our public resources including education, medical, law enforcement and public services?

I emigrated to the USA from England in the 90's and became a US citizen in 1997.

In England we found in the 70's that people wanting to exploit a loophole in the law to stay in the UK illegally were coming over to the U.K., having children there, and then staying over claiming their children's British citizenship as the reason.

The Brits passed a law (and I am not acquainted intimately with all the details) that disallowed anyone from claiming British citizenship when their kids were born in UK unless they themselves were there legally either as a resident or a citizen. Currently, (In general), since 1 January 1983, it has been possible to acquire British citizenship automatically:

(a) by birth in the UK to a parent who is either a British citizen or settled in the UK under immigration law;

(b) by adoption in the UK by a British citizen parent;

(c) by birth outside the UK to a parent who is a British citizen "otherwise than by descent";

(d) by birth outside the UK to a British citizen parent in Crown, Designated or European Community service.

If we could pass a similar law, then no illegal alien children of illegal aliens could be staying over here 'legally', draining our country of medical, educational and all kinds of other resources that will eventually mean a really hard time for our descendants, not to mention all kinds of other complications like changes in culture, language etc. This law in the U.K. takes away no rights of LEGAL citizens but for sure does NOT ALLOW illegal aliens to get away with unfairly infringing upon Britain.

So my qn to those more knowledgeable in matters of US law, constitution is what would it take to pass a law like that? That kind of law could with an ability to deport illegals would start to stem this unwanted tide of change. Would we need some kind of an amendment?

There is much we can learn from 'older' countries tactics used in limiting illegal immigration or making it unrewarding for law breakers. Automatically obtaining citizenship for offspring of illegal aliens is a strong driver and motivator for many illegals. Even if they cannot get citizenship rapidly, their children can.

And their children become eligible for all kinds of benefits which is surely one of the biggest advantages for the illegals to come over here and have children. Of course, in time, these same children born here as U.S. citizens will then add their voices to a democratic process (that cannot of course differentiate between U.S. citizens) and steer the USA ship in a direction even more favorable towards their illegal parents and other illegals.

This process could eventually spell an exponential end to many of the amazing achievements, infrastructure and liberties that we enjoy today as a result of our resources, culture and common language, interests.
